for those that use bench stones on their blades, my norton india/crystalon stone is getting a bit rounded in areas, at least on the soft side. how do you guys get her back flat? i have a granite slab... if that helps...

A lot of people use diamond stones to lap them flat. Another trick I've heard of is putting sand on a cinder block.

On damaged stones I have resurfaced them with emery cloth taped to a marble slab. 60 grit and water and elbow grease.

I've done it on a belt sander. Probably risked heat cracks, but I've done it with 5 different stones (some are $$$) several times without problem over the years.

Go to Lowe's or Wally World and buy yourself a bag of "Play Sand". You can use a cinder block or even your driveway. Consider the sand as a "lubricant", and keep a layer of it between your "block" or "driveway" and the stone.

Just rub back and forth on a flat surface. Let the sand do the work. Takes a little time, but with patience, it will return to "flat".

I spoke to a Japanese sharpening expert. He told me to use the tiles from a sidewalk. He does.
