Drifting lube?

Watching youtube videos of hammer/axe eye punching and drifting I see guys sprinkling something in there, I assume to keep the punch or drift from sticking.

What is that substance?
 
I been using a water bourne graphite forge lube.
Dunno what brand or specifics. Was given a gallon of the stuff years ago. A little goes a long way.
 
Coal dust is about all I use, mainly because it's cheap and there's always some on the coal forge. I've tried cooling the punches in everything from homemade lube to used motor oil and have settled on any oil that is handy.
