Driftwood handle

Now that winter is here and fishing is done with for me, I am back at the grinder. Just a quick question on using driftwood for handle material. Am I correct in assuming that saltwater driftwood would be a bad thing to use? Or is using any driftwood for handles a bad idea?

It would have to be stabilized. I would think other woods would be better.
