Drill bits & tap for titanium liners?

Can someone recommend some drill bits and taps to drill and tap titanium liners to accept pocket clip screws?

I have several knives I want to convert to left hand carry and provide tip up/tip down carry options to.

It only needs to drill thru about 1/16 of an inch. Hole is about 3/16th to be tapped. Screw threads are the ones used on Emerson pocket clips.

Recommendations and tips/tricks would be appreciated. I've drilled and tapped for automotive applications before, but not for knives.

Thanks! :)

I'm assuming that since Emerson quotes inch specs on his site, he uses inch spec fasteners and not metric.

You choices are

0-80
1-72
2-56
4-40

google a chart and measure what you have and then get back to us

I'm betting on 2-56
and a drill tap chart will reveal a different #ed drill for each size

then when searching for taps, try to find a spiral flute tap.

Emersons are indeed 2-56 thread.

If I recall correctly , its been awhile since I drilled and tapped 2-56 in .050 Ti , I believe I used a 5/64 bit , but that only gives approx 65% thread , for more thread use a #50 bit.

If your using 2-56 plug tap go with a #48 drill. but i reccomend you use a thread forming tap with a #47 drill or 5/64. thread forming are far tougher and much harder to break.
