drill press is it worth it

Never heard of that company. I paid $175 delivered new for my Grizzly tabletop (largest on the market) and its heavier dutier than that. With a full size 4" tube, and a 3/4 hp motor.

I was fine with a 1/2" chuck, but when I upgraded the chuck, I went 5/8".

I would say to offer around $100 for it, because I've never heard of the brand. Granted that I don't research for all kinds of brands, I just haven't heard of it before.

On first glance I would say its worth the money, The upright column looks very beefy and the table raises on a rack and pinion. THere is no doubt a 3 or 4 step pulley setup under the tin to change the gears and most of the older drill presses are fairly well built. If it were me I would get it in a second.

I would make sure rpms are 250 or less for drilling metal. Thats my preferance anyway

maybe take a square with you and make sure the table and the chuck are not out of wack

good luck

What makes it "heavy duty" ? It's only a 1/2 horsepower. How heavy duty could it be? I think you could get a brand new drill press for that price from a company you have actually heard of :D

It's kind of a pretty machine, with a nice vintage look. Probably higher quality than most cheap drill presses around now. I like that style of table, gives you some good clamping options. 1/2 horse is a little underpowered for some things, but optimally you would have at least two drill presses for different options anyway. As noted above, you may be able to buy locally a new drill press with higher horsepower, more speeds, and a heavier frame but that does not necessarily make for a better press. If the spindle, table, chuck, etc. have no runout to speak of, and the motor doesn't look filthy or smell cooked when you RUN it, a $100 offer is probably a good deal. I could take it or leave it though, don't kick yourself if you miss this one.

The drill press will do fine, but the price is about twice what it should be. I had a very similar Taiwanese unit many years back. It is a bit under powered and may bind or stall in some larger drilling operations. For knife work, it will be fine. The under powering was why I went to a larger unit.
