just wondering if there is any modifications that has been tryed to tighten up a drill press quill so the bit does not walk?

You drilling or milling with that? Is that how you got to bleed so much last week?:D
Some drilling machines have tapered bearings in the head and can be adjusted to reduce play.
The drill bit should not "walk" though if you first centre punch a starting dimple.
Is the surface you are drilling flat?
A centre drill also works wonders to make a starting hole.
Hope that helps.

Mike.

How is the wound BTW?

You need to drill and tap holes in cast iron casting. Put bronze set screws in them and it'll remove most play between quill and casting.
