Funds are limited and im looking for a cheap drill press. I tried using a hand drill but that only resulted in several very shoddy knives. It would be very appreciated if anyone could tell me where to go to find an affordable drill press.

harbor freight or Grizzly. The quality is at best so-so, but with a little adjustment their products are usually functional. I have been having problems with Sears power tools lately, I went around and around with them for a year on getting my drill press fixed, and finally after getting the third rebuilt one that their repair department swore was new but had the same problem (I talked to their vice president's office in Chicago where I found out about the deception) and told them to give me my money back on the repair and fixed it myself. I have a grizzly mill-drill that is servicable, it needed some adjustment, and my stepfather has a grizzly belt grinder that is not bad.
The grizzly stuff is inexpensive chinese made stuff, the harbor freight is typically a grade lower chinese made stuff, the sears is now also chinese made, and doesn't seem to be made enough better than the harbor freight to justify the higher price

Your mileage will vary, just my opinion.

I've had good luck with the 40 dollar drill press from HF, you can sometimes get it for $30 on sale. If you have a harbor freight store near you, you can save on shipping it. If the item is on sale online, print out the ad and bring it in. These are not perfect, but they are OK for most of what we do.

Check out the pawn shops, too. If it is priced at $75, offer them $35. If they say NO, say, "Thanks" (and no more) , and turn to leave. Every shop that I know of won't let a customer leave if they think he is a buyer. Just look it over well before you make an offer. Once you buy it, it is yours!

I have had good luck with Craigs list. www.craigslist.com If you don't mind used equipment. I picked up a drill press and a band saw last weekend for a total of $90.00. Both were like new.

I second Craigs lists!! I've gotten some great deals on stuff. For your question though I think grizzly is a little higher quality than harbor freight, but that also comes with a general increase in price. It would help to list what type of drilling you will be doing and whether you are looking at a bench or floor model. Grizzly drill presses have gotten many awards for best drill press for price.

Craigs list got me a very nice drill press for 100 and a 5hp sears compressor with a 30 gallon tank and a whole pile of air tools for $200. Keep checking it every day in the listings near you.

i had a harbor freight small drill press-piece of junk-the replacement they gave me is still in the box after 2 years-lol
