Anyone know where one of these can be purchased 1/4 inch by 4 inches or longer.
I found some at harbor freight but they were just a tad of 3 inches, not really deep enough for hidden tangs.

4 to 5 inches would seem to be ideal.
Thanks

Maybe they are not made as they would break or pull the taper off, like an endmill?

I have some that look identical to the HF ones I purchased at one of the big box hardware stores. They are not long enough either and the don't work that well. I have better luck with a sawzall blade ground down to fit in the hole/holes I drill in the handle.

They don't work all that well, anyway...but you can weld a 1/4" extension on one in a pinch.

Your method sounds interesting. Fine toothed sawall blade I assume? Do they make a manual handle you can hook onto it with?

Home depot has a 1/4" x 6" drill saws on their web site.

What you really need though is a hand broach (google it) to square the hole for a more solid fit of the tang.(unless you have a round tang of course)

Thank's to Stacy for the broach idea.(I read it in an old thread a couple of years ago about hidden tangs.)

Mykel is correct, the right tool is the hand broach. I have one though that does not work well. There are some really nice ones that do work very well though. Like most any really good quality tool they don't come cheap though. Not saying they aren't worth the money just not a tool I have sprung for yet.

They do make a handle for the sawzall blade and I have one. But honestly it is easier to use with some electrical tape wrapped around it for a handle. I use one blade, but some guys use 2 or 3 blades together.
