I have a couple of faceplates that are currently threaded 1x8 and I need to open them up to 11/4 x 8 I want to get you folks advice as to whether this is doable by hand, or do I just need to find a machine shop that will do it?

Thanks for any advice feedback!!

I think that's too big to do by hand. Perhaps with some help and a couple cheater bars.

Also, if this is a faceplate that mounts to a spindle by those threads they probably need to be more accurate than you'd get with a tap, you don't want them unstable in use because of a poor thread form. It might be better if they were single point turned at a lathe shop. I don't do that kind of work here anymore, but when I did it would have been a 30 minute $50 job.

Who ever does that work for you, they will probably want both the faceplate and the spindle you want to fit it on.

Thanks for the info guys. I suspected it might be a bit much to do by hand Nathan. And they go on a lathe, so there is no way to carry the spindle with me--the lathe ways 200 lbs.

Appreciate the thoughts!
