Drilling holes in Micarta?

So I went to walmart the other day and pocked up one of those mysterious Buck mesa 632 knives. It is to my understanding that there are lanyard holes drilled in the tang of the knife, just not the handles. So my question is, has anybody drilled a hole through micarta? Is there any issue doing this? I have never handled the material before so I just want to make sure it doesnt crumble or anything when i do this. I plan on clamping it to a chunk of wood and drilling straight through to make a clean edge on the back side.

Micarta does fine when you drill it, it'll behave essentially the same as G10. Just wear a respirator or filter mask when you're drilling.

Micarta drills fine with very little blowout, though that is not what your main concern should be.

How do you know where the lanyard hole in the tang is located?
How do you know that you will hit it at all let alone centered?

I would run a carbide bit (for glass & ceramic tile) and go very slow using a lot of cutting fluid.
This will discolor the slabs a bit, but after a good cleaning and use it will blend and disappear.

Your main focus will be on cutting through anything that gets in your way, and the bit and fluid is what will do it. Even a hardened tang or blade itself can be cut with a carbide bit if you go slow enough and use enough cutting fluid.

I already did it. unscrewed the handles and the lanyard holes were drilled through the tang. I left one side on the tang and drilled through the lanyard hole in the tang into the micarta and a chunk of wood underneath. Did the same for the other side and voila, lanyard holes just like the buck sentry and endeavor. I love this knife even more!
