I bought the Delta 10" from Lowes last summer, for $100

I do woodworking too... after a month, I needed to drill the center of an 11" piece. So I sold the 10" on craigslist and bought the 12". I think I paid $150 for the 12".

I've been happy with it. I think I've stalled the motor once with a 3" hole-saw (in wood), and once with a 2" deep counter-bore (something I probably should have been doing on a lathe). Besides that, I have no complaints. Its small and light enough to move around. The lowest speed setting is slow enough, and the depth stop is consistent enough. It came with a cheesy laser cross hair that I removed after realizing it was basically useless.

I question your reason for wanting to use a milling vise with a drill press. Most any decent drill press will suffice for general shop work.
Why the milling vise?

If you are planning on using a drill press for a milling machine, it will work but not for long. The bearings in a drill press are made to handle a thrust load (pressing straight down) but are not designed to take a radial load (from the side).

I just thought I would mention this so you don't end up with a nice new drill press that is worn out in no time.

i got mine used, its a jet bench top that had the motor swaped out with a 3HP. i have never stalled it yet :D. and i onley payed $100

Thanks for the help

Hey Karl,i thought it would work for slotting guards and such, but, after the input maybe not.
Thanks again,Keith

Tried that with a small cross feed vice and the chuck rattled its self loose and made a bit of a mess.
Some drills have a square bed that can only move side ways but if you get a drill with a round bed it is so much more versatile.
