Drinking and playing with knives...

I'm not a heavy drinker by any stretch of the imagination, but I definitely enjoy my weekend Bud Lights. Specifically, my late Saturday night Buds after the wife and kid are in bed. This is "Dad's time" at my house. My way of easing the stress of the work week. A 6 pack, a few folders laid out on the coffee table in front of me, bladeforums loaded up on my phone, and my favorite YouTube knife channels loaded up on the TV. Jim Skelton, Nick Shabazz, Terafenatic, Mindlessmark, nutnfancy, maybe some bladehq, gpknives, gearbarrel, whitty's channel at usamadeblade, and countless others.

This is absolute heaven for me. A chance to sit and appreciate my favorite knives aesthetically and functionally. The 3-5 beers make this an exponentially fun thing over the course of 2-3 hours. This is truly a ritual for me. A time to learn new things, discover new makers or brands, and to scope out my next grail, (or drool over grails I'll never be able to afford.) Each week, this process slightly alters my definition of the "perfect" folder. I use this time to intentionally extend my interest in the hobby to an infinite level. Almost making it impossible to actually find that "perfect" folder. I swear this process even helps me sleep better. Anyone else do this? Love to know I'm not the only creep drinking late at night and drooling over sharp objects :D

Lately the better half has been up with me in the evenings. She's really taking an interest in knives on her own. Last night while we were sitting, me with my knives and BF loaded up and her with whatever the heck she does o_O, out of the blue she says, "I want to buy a knife." Well, needless to say, it was a very proud moment :D:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: (Turns out what she "does" as of late is look at knives!!)

Mine started eye-balling my Guardian 3 that just came in. I reminded her how brutal she is with knives and that she has Moras all over the house so she doesn't use my blades or the kitchen knives.

It certainly makes explaining unexpected packages a little easier! Now I'll just have to watch out for when hers start showing up ;)

Hell... I'll find a way to love Tac Force after 5 Buds... But you'll have to give me Everclear and paint chips to love Frost...

I'm sitting here in Egypt waiting to fly out and decided to check the edge on my Strider SMF before I get to my next fob. Drank a can of three kings, everything seems so much sharper

I do much the same thing except its Jeep's and Motor Trend as well as You Tube. I plot the next upgrade, mentally schedule maintenance etc.

I'm about to head back to the States for a couple years and I have a spreadsheet and some appointments ready to go.

When I saw the header, I totally expected to see pics from the ER and some sutures.
My ritual is similar, except no kids, the wife is still up, single malt, and it rotates between blades, firearms and gun leather, air-cooled 911s, and mahogany speedboats.

I have to admit when I saw the thread title I was thinking the exact same ... glad is wasn't lol

I don't drink often anymore but I do have days or evenings when I sit down and get several knives out and ckeanup or touch up the edges or compared and test cut things ... while watching videos or reading about knives / guns / or all things outdoors.

I do the same with my firearms at times just a relaxing evening or rainy day to clean and maybe see what new one I may feel the need for.

It's good to know others do the same ... saves me a therapist bill ... J/K

and I love reading about some of the wives getting interested in knives joining in ... I'm single but think that would be great to have a partner that you could share the interest with ... so next rounds on me ... as long as we don't end up with Emergency Room pictures by morning ... carry on !!!

Yup, usually a few beers or a mixed drink for me and admire my wares.
That would be my knives and lit cabinet of antique bottles. Nice relaxing time ;)

If I drink alcohol I do NOT mess with knives. I may want too but life experience has shown it is a BAD idea.

Yeah, I saw the header and thought, "This isn't going to be good."

One beer would probably put me to sleep, maybe two. I have not had anything in years. An ice cold beer on a hot day does sound good though. Cold beer, some good tacos and a new blade to try out. What more could one want?

Back when I used to drink, me and the boys would head for the hills for a weekend wahoo.
You knew something bad was going to happen when you heard, "Hold my beer." Then, "Watch This!"
