Drinking urine for survival when dehydrated

Well, the sweaty sock and sand would strain out the bigger chunks in your urine. Assuming you had chunky urine. Otherwise, you would have to chew it.

Well, you did say "make it sound worse", didn't you? :p

I think I might have just puked a little in my mouth there. :p

Has anyone tried to light a passed kidney stone yet? Could be good tinder??

What about running it through a water filter? I am sure you would not want to use the filter again after that, but we are talking about a life threatening situation. Would that be enough to make it potable?

Filters filter out suspended particles down to a certain micron size, thus my "chunks" quip. Disolved chemical and mineral components would pass right through filters, IMHO. Only purification via reverse osmosis or evaporation/distillation would be effective, IMHO. Even then I would suspect that the volitility of ureic acids and other compounds would not allow them to be fully removed. And all this speculation still ignores the very valid point that one would meanwhile lose more water through breathing, digestion/defecation and sweating than would be regained from the effort to reclaim the water from urine. Ok, so maybe my reading comprehension skills arent what they used to be.
I will try reading the entire thread next time. ;)

Very interesting KGD thank you. I might be okay with drinking my own pee, but would you be alright with drinking someone else's urine? I mean for survival?
