Hi everyone, I have purchased a 2 x72 Reeder belt grinder , a 2Hp , 3450 rpm AC motor, and a KBAC 27D VFD. What I haven't purchased is the wheel set. I am trying to decide from whom and what size drive wheel I should purchase . This will be my first belt grinder . Any thoughts?

A 4" drive wheel hands down - that will give you well over 4,000 SFPM belt speed with only a small amount of overspeed on the drive, and you'll still be able to slow down to 400 SFPM belt speed when desired. You did right by getting a VFD drive.

my first grinder had a nylon wheel set from Oregon Blade maker. They worked very well, and I used the platen wheels as contact wheels. If you just need a drive wheel they have those cheap. Make sure you get the right drive shaft size.

Exactly what u have and that's exactly how I use the wheels. Zero issues. And great prices

been running a 1750rpm and 4 inch wheel drive 80% over speed as my hogging knowing ful well i was not getting the best tool life but that low speed for sharpenig and the small wheel set is killer. fact is i need a 2nd grinder built for high speed and a 3rd grinder for a 36-48 inch wheel slow speed. shop tools never stop "needing into the shop" but you have to make due with what you have and build from there

Thank you everyone. I am going with OregonBladeMakers. I am ordering there nylon set with the 5" drive wheel, 5/8 bore. Hopefully that will work out for me.
