Okay, that's it, you guys are driving me crazy! lol I've been bitten HARD by the knife making bug just by browsing this forum. I want to try but have no real clue where to start. I want to make a large knife like a bowie. I can't own a forge where I live now, but I am getting a 1 inch belt grinder based on recommendations I have read here. Does anyone have a large bowie blank they can sell to me? Also, would you be willing to offer advice or help? This is all you guys fault!, just kidding. lol

But seriously, I want to thank all of you for inspiring me to try. I really think I can make a nice bowie with a little help. I'd really like to try anyway!

You know Randy, theirs no turning back once you start this!!!, It will soon consume your life and ever spare minute of your free time,LOL Where are you from Randy? I would almost bet their is probally a knifemaker somewhere close around you that might just help you out, Put in your location on your profile and we will all go from there,Charlie

Hey Charlie and thanks for replying. I live in Chandler, Arizona. I've only been here for a year and don't really know that many people here. I'll go update my profile, thanks for the reminder!

edited to add: I updated my profile. I'll go back and clean it up later, but I wanted to put my info out there in case it helps.

I really appreciate this forum!!!

If you're in Chandler, consider looking up D'Alton Holder in the Phoenix area or Ray Rybar up in Camp Verde. D'Holder is a heck of a good maker and I hope to meet him later this year when I travel to Scottsdale. Ray is a great maker too and a fantastic guy to boot. You've got some great makers out that way who may be able to help you in your learning. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll do my best to get in touch with them. Meanwhile, does anyone know where I could get a large bowie blank to start with? I want to dip my toes in the water before jumping in, so to speak.

Take a look at Jantz. They have lots of styles of knife blanks.

You may want to check out Great Lakes Water Jet too. That guy usually has Bowie blanks and for good prices too.
