This is my Drone model. It is primarily designed as a neck knife, although it can be carried in a variety of ways. My goal when creating the Drone was to create a neck knife that was small, ergonomic, secure and lightweight, yet still fully functional.
The Drone is a bit different in that the ring is primarily designed to accomodate the middle finger. The index finger wraps around the choil, and the ring finger rests comfortably on the small rear protrusion. (The rear protrusion can be used for light prying.) This makes for an extremely secure grip that allows for excellent control and precision. The knife can rest in the hand while still allowing the user full use of their hands.
As you can see, this knife has an extremely unique finish. This particular knife incorporates my "Rorschach" finish. I feel that this is an appropriate name, as everyone I show it to seems to see different things in the random pattern on the blade. This design is cut into the steel, and will not come off unless you grind it off. This finish is completely unique for each blade.
This knife actually has 3 finishes. The flats are taken to 400 grit, then hit with a medium ScotchBrite belt. The hollows are taken to 400 grit, then hit with a fine ScotchBrite belt. After the design is cut into the blade, the high spots are then polished. This gives a nice contrast and sort of a 3D/hologram look. Up close, it sort of reminds me of a broken mirror the way it reflects.
The knife is ground with a 14" contact wheel, with high hollow grind. The edge is nice and thin, making it an outstanding cutter.
I would be glad to cord wrap the handle if desired, although the knife is comfortable without it.
It's hard to get a really good picture of this finish. I assure you that it's even more impressive in person.
