Droopy blades - pet peeve

I agree with the OP, I don't like the downward angle either.
As Kootenay said, I think it is to create a belly, using the blade angle geometry.

This may illustrate my point. This design both concepts, belly with a straight blade spring alignment.

I did not mean droop to create a belly. More that the 'droop' puts the distal (tip) end of the blade in the right place for it's intended use.

Interesting comments in this thread. I have not given it any thought prior but I am in the it doesn't bother me either way camp. Some designs obviously do droop and others do not. I like both.

This best sums up my position.

This "drooping" is not a flaw. The knife is designed to have the blade in this position when fully open. Depending upon handle size and shape and blade profile, this position of blade angling down slightly can be more ergonomic for the type of cutting that blade is intended for. i.e. could be a better angle for whittling but not good for slicing.
All knife companies have some patterns in which a blade is angled when fully open. This is intentional as it puts that blade in the correct position for use. If you don't like it then most likely you do not do the type of cutting it is intended for.

It's certainly the case that some blades are deliberately set at an angle on some patterns, but in my experience the angle of the blade can vary on the same pattern from the same manufacturer, on one knife the blade sits out straight, on others it droops.

I don't mind it, depending on the blade shape. I think it can be functional in angling the edge toward what you are cutting. But if you don't like it you can just grind the back of the tang where it contacts the spring a bit. Easy peasy! Good luck!

No; I don't believe I'll go grinding on the 06 BF knife. It was evidently designed that way on purpose and while I prefer it straighter I can live with it the way it is.

It would be nice if a cutler would chime in on the why's of it. Perhaps Erik from CSC will see this and add his thoughts.

AGAIN; This thread was not started to single out CSC; I think they are a great company and put out a wonderful product. I have seen this downward angle on different knives / brands and only used the photo of my ring opener because it was my photo and available.
