Drop point or tanto on your edc?

Tanto. My edc is an Emerson Super CQC-7 and it does everything my prior edc's did... no real disadvantage to a tanto, even my chisel ground one... not a big deal--it gets scary sharp and cuts very, very well. Not the best at peeling apples, but that's what the traditional in my other pocket is for ;)

Drop point or clip point all the way 👍
I just don't like the tactical-ish lol of the American tanto ( one that I like may come along, but none have yet )
Honestly I have no clue what any benefits an American tanto offers ( other than stabbing car doors and oil drums ) I would really like to know if it offers something I don't know about.

I think a drop point blade is my favorite for an EDC. A tanto is good at times but seems to have some limitations. My least favorite blade is a clip point. However, it really depends upon the overall ergos of the knife.

Yeah. Did the links for the pics work? I think the mini grip will do most of what the AFO can do

Most of the time I like drop point. Tantos are good but only shine on really heavy duty knives where tip strength would be an issue.

Drop point, spear point, clip point are my preferred blades in that order as I am mainly in the mountains doing outdoor activities. I never have owned a tanto blade and don't see much use for one what I do.

Right now and for the past month it's been a tanto.

Why? Because I had no tanto and wanted to switch things up.

Nice. I think the reason my tanto knife is so much better than any other folder I own is because it's Benchmade. I lubed it up and was working the oil into it and took off a chunk of my finger. I guess tomorrow will be fun with my taped up finger and gloves

Ouch! What happened?

So why an American tanto ?
Are there any advantages ?

I just remembered that I carried a small ft tactical brand tanto neck knife 24/7 for over a year and I loved it ( the kydex got loose so I just never went back when I made my current neck knife )
I didn't ever notice any disadvantages at all. ( tanto's aren't my thing, but it was a gift and it just plain worked )

I prefer tantos and wharncliffes for my EDC needs, followed by hawkbill, clip point, spear point and drop point

For my uses, this:

beats this

and then comes this one

followed by this one

but I dislike drop points, TBH

I usually like drop points, but if the tanto has a thin enough grind to be sharp throughout, that is great!

I don t like the tanto appearance. Drop point or spear point does fine for me as an edc/work knife.

Spyderco's leaf shape blade is my favorite.

I don't think you're supposed to use a belt sander on most knives. And that's why. If I need to sharpen my Benchmade, I'll use their lifesharp warranty. Mainly because I don't want to deal with sharpening it myself

I use a belt sander for most all my sharpening jobs. Rarely do I find something that I cannot sharpen on a 72 X 2. I have a variety of belts up to 2000 grit and even cork belts with jewelers rouge for polishing.

I thought I would run into a but more of a mixed response here. I like my tanto because it can punch through heavier materials. That said, a drop point is much easier to sharpen. I think once it comes in, the mini grip will be my main edc for utilitarian purposes. Plus it has stronger steel
Has there been a time you had a task a drop/clip point would not penetrate?
