Dropped my EDC knife... In a urinal...

You're supposed to throw a Sebenza in after it, so you don't feel like you're reaching into the urinal for only a cheap knife. :D

Just wash it with anti-bacterial soap a few times.....

It's just urine man, there's probably worse stuff in half the crap we eat/food you will cut with it.

I did drop it and pee on it and used a pull through sharpener... However I did not threaten it with a bench grinder, my buddy did and I said no lol!

LOL, too funny.

I think I would have just abandoned it in the urinal. But I can be a little ridiculous about germs, I don't like bowling because I find communal sports equipment disgusting.

So I got an old pot, filled 'er with water and boiled the crappy out of my knife and sheath. Good as uh... Well good as before I dropped it!

A study of germs in restaurants, showed that there are more germs in the ice machines than there are in the toilets.

A generous application of alcohol based hand sanitizer gel well rubbed all over the knife followed by soap and water would do the trick.

Vegetable oil is best if you use it for food prep.

Mineral oil is best for a blade that sees food usage. I work in the food industry and our mineral oil is used exclusively on machinery as a food contact lubricant and as a corrosion inhibiting measure on ferrous metal parts. Due to the fact that vegetable and olive oil can spoil or go rancid.

Keep yourself and your family safe, for food prep on carbon blades, use a rag with mineral oil on it and store it in a zip lock bag for cleanliness and only use that rag on a cleaned blade.

Truth is I bet the door knob to the bathroom had more germs on it than inside the urinal. I would scrub it with hot soapy water with a an old toothbrush and hang it up overnight to dry.

Hey, now you can tell everyone that there is no question the knife is yours and that you were just marking it as such. Just like the local tomcat marks what is his.

Be glad that you fished the knife out when you did. Just think what it would have been like if you had to go back to get it and found some dude pissin" on your knife. Not sure if I would claim the thing.

You could also soak the knife in alcohol, preferably 70 or 90% isopropyl. Alcohol shouldn't bother rubber, and if it soaks in the alcohol shouldn't mess with steel in the slightest.

As for sharpening, you can get a cheap crock stick sharpener in a lot of places, and it will do good enough if your edge isn't butchered to start with. If your edge is beat up already you will need to take it to a proper stone. Hardware stores have cheap stones you can use, and there are literally thousands of sharpen8ng tutorials online. If you need any specific pointers, we have dozens of members here who are more than happy to help. Us knife guys gotta help each other!

Ballistol is a disinfectant also I believe because of the alcohol, another reason I use it on knives that might come into contact with food.

I would have had to leave the knife in the pisser. Just like the shitter, those public porcelain wall pissers are a one way receptacle...no exceptions! A Blade Man has got to know his limitations.

It's the only EDC knife I own and I'd have felt naked without it. Plus we were close to a school, wasn't leaving it behind lol.

That's some bad luck! Even after cleaning and sterilizing it I bet you will think of where it was when you start cutting food with it...

Seriously, THIS.

Nothing will survive the alcohol... That's why it's used in MEDICAL PROCEDURES!

Just don't use acetone. Bad idea.

It is listed as being food safe, but I would not trust it as being a disinfectant. Isopropyl alcohol is super cheap, and WILL do the job.
