Dropping knives and damage...

i've dropped my schrade 34OT lots of time on concrete . been EDC'ing it for appx. 7 yrs doing conctruction work ( electrician ). lots of scratches and little dings. no blade damage at all. damn, i miss them USA made schrades. best work knives ever made. :(

The missing chunk of G-10 on the corner of my Military is from a 4 foot drop on the driveway.

I don't [personally] consider handle dings and scratches 'damage' on any of my users.

My BG-42 Military has seen 3 hard drops onto concrete & asphalt... 2 of them chipped the carbon fiber on the butt on the handle, and the 3rd drop scared the sh-t out of me: I had the knife in the side console of my car because I was about to head into the post office [] and the knife fell out somehow. I look down and the blade had come loose from the impact and I picked it up expecting, that at the very least, the tip would be missing. Luckily it just marred the spine of the blade, near the tip.... got lucky on that one...

'Damage' to some of you is simply evidence of a well-used tool to me. :)

what he said. :D

Dropped my S30V paramilitary about 3 feet off the ground onto ceramic tile. Broke the tip off, just about 1/16th of an inch I guess. It was not too much of a pain to sharpen out, but I do wish that knife had a thicker tip.

my moms kitchen knife, it fell on my finger:eek: and then onto the floor. I guess i should be thankful that by hitting my finger, it didn't hit my foot.
note to self: don't try to catch falling knives...

Dropped a classic Gerber Mark II and broke off the tip, then did the same with a Mark I a few years later.

Chipped a few folder blades, and broke the tip off a slimline machete, most were fixable.

...and I definitely learned my lesson about catching falling knives ...dropped my Fallkniven Thor bowie on my ankle and severed my achilles tendon about six weeks ago... DOH!!! ,just swapped my hard cast for a boot today, Doc says I may be able to try walking in a couple more months... But for the record, the knife was NOT damaged!!!

I live on the second floor of an apartment complex. One day, I was waiting around for my package to arrive, and when it did, I rushed over to pick it up. Anxious, I tore it open to find a new Case Barehead Slimline Trapper with yellow handle and CV blade. I was so excited that as I was walking up the stairs back to the apartment, I dropped it on the concrete stairs and it slipped down to the first floor into some shrubbery.

Luckily, it was closed when it fell and there's just a small dent on the butt of the knife. At least I got to test out how easy it is to find a yellow knife in brush. Those farmhands knew what they were doing when they chose yellow.

I dropped my CQC-12 and automatically put my foot out to stop it with out thinking. Unfortunately I was up in a
tree doing some arboriculture work and I pretty much drop kicked the knife on to a gravel path from 20ft up.

The blade and handle had a few nicks and dings but no real damage to speak of

Never really had any damage from dropping a knife. They usually manage to fall on the handles, and scuff those up a bit at worst.

I did recently screw up the tip on my Tenacious, but that wasn't a drop, I was just being stupid...

This past Christmas, I had my beloved Tobb Begg Gents Glimpse fall out of my pocket as I saw stepping out of my truck My beloved knife hit the ground, back of the blade first; which took a chucnk of metal, as well as did same gamage to the back spacer. It $150.00 ti fix my baby. It looked perfcet when she cam home to me!!

(PLeae forgive my typing, I am on heavy duty pain meds,)

Get well soon Suzanne:)

I dropped my Kerry Hampton KHnutbuster once from chest height directly onto asphalt. It caused a good sized chip on one of the bone scales.

I also dropped a Himalayan Imports Kumar Kobra. I had just received it and it slipped out of my grasp as I was taking it out of the sheath. Like a moron I tried to catch it. I was pretty successful, but the Kobra grazed my finger on the way down. No damage to the knife, but I received a good-sized gash for my stupidity.

Better look out! Noss might start using that as a new test! :D

Nice that it didn't suffer too badly though.

Stepped out of my car and had my Kershaw rainbow leek snag on something and fly out onto parking lot concrete. Dropped from about 3.5 feet high and skidded about 4 odd feet. The rainbow coating in one corner was a little scratched, but you literally need to have a magnifying glass to see the damage perfectly. I was astounded.

I've dropped my Opinel and my EKA Swede many times each. Neither of them look any worse for wear. In fact I hit my opinel all the time in order to pop the blade out. Wood handled knives may not be able to hold up under crazy amounts of pressure but they seem to handle minor dings much better than some stronger materials.

I dropped my fixed blade for about four feet onto -
my left foot :D

It stood there for a few seconds and then fell over on the floor with no dame to the blade.

Dropped a kabar tip down onto a bunch of wire fence took a small ding out of the tip, doesn't have any effect on its performance so I haven't fixed it yet.

Picked up a 1st version 1st variation Buck 112 inverted 2 liner on the bay in very good condition. Dropped it pulling it out of my pocket to show it off onto a stone parking area. Chipped the micarta and dinged the front bolster
