Drunken Jiu Jitsu Converts Future Beckerhead

Last night and a couple nights ago I took my BK15 to big piles of cardboard to trim to reasonable sizes for easy recycling, it took everything I dished out where most folding knives would've had issues with stability. I could push cut or pull cut through the cardboard and never had a moment where I doubted the ability of the 15 to get through whatever I threw at it. The final test was a strong plastic laptop case that had cracked and didn't fit my laptop anymore: it was plastic that didn't fracture easily, I could bend it in half and it wouldn't snap, so I figured better to cut it into pieces rather than trying to flex it enough to break it. Well, out with the 15, and a few minutes later I managed to have a laptop case in pieces and a still fully intact 15 with a few scratches on the coating but otherwise unharmed. I chopped through the case, I pushed with all my weight straight down through the case, and never did the blade feel like it wouldn't be fine.

Considering me impressed with the 15 even more, it's currently my 2nd-most-used Becker behind my favorite BK9.

That op sounded suspiciously like a dude on dude "true erotica" letter submission.......

Brokeback Mountain with a knife twist?

Very glad that mora did not impale you. (You would have had to repeat that story for a group of Doctors and Nurses at least 3 times)

Nice to hear how others are putting this blade to work and liking the results.

As we both stared down at the upright Mora shining in the light of the camp fire, we realized the precariousness of our lives, that the time for fighting was over, and the time for loving was here...

:D

I could stand to learn a little more jiu jitsu. Japanese or BJJ? We learn a little here and there in Krav Maga, but not a ton. My instructors always tell us that we're dead if we go to ground and can't get up and get out quickly. Glad you didn't end up stabbed by your own knife. Did you get a 15 for the buddy who saved you? We could use more Beckerheads who can save us from our drunken folly.

Congrats on the new knife. At first, and up until recently, I didn't get what all the craziness and admiration was about Becker's knives... I'm starting to understand a bit more... I dont have one myself yet... maybe soon. I doubt it would be my end all-be all knife... but the appeal is speaking to me.

That being said... it seems there is nothing wrong with your Mora. :-) You just wanted an excuse to buy more knives. And that is OK. lol.

Seriously though, with a nice patina like that on your Mora... worth keeping around for the tasks the Becker is too large for, and as a backup. Everyone should have a Mora as a backup knife.

Yep, 100%. I just figured you guys get a million posts about newbies getting their first Becker, so I thought I'd spice mine up with the story that helped me justify the purchase.

Don't fear for the Mora, I'll have a proper sheath made and it'll still see it's fair share of use.

Some pics from my second attempt at carving some handle scales. Much more successful than the first go around, but still needs some work. I need to get some hardware as using the stock stuff is real tricky for a beginner such as myself.

One of the few neighbors I have out here is a retired meat cutter and when he visited me the other day I was showing off my new BK15. He looked impressed as he inspected it and then testing the edge I had put on it he furrowed his brow and scoffed at me. Ten minutes later with a series of sharpening stones and this thing is insane. INSANE.

Try as I do, there is no substitute for 40+ years of daily knife sharpening.
