Just wondering if anyone has any opinions or have ever used dry graphite powder as a lube for pocket knives? I have a bunch of it and was wondering if it was ok or even decent to use.
Thanks.

Graphite works very well as a dry lube, but it will migrate and get everywhere and it wants to absorb moisture.

Personally, I'd suggest you use something else like moly or teflon if you want a dry lubricant.

As a locksmith, I would come across graphite constantly. While indeed it does make a pretty good dry lubricant, refrain from being liberal with its use. A little goes a long way. CWL is also correct in that it wants to absorb moisture. I can't tell how many calls I would run into where someone had used some graphite, then later followed it up with some WD40 (UGH), creating a sticky, gloop situation, hence the request for a locksmith.

Teflon dry lubricants are great. Medeco used them for their locks all the time and I found it quite satisfying.

I find its good if you have problems with a lock sticking. Just put some on the blade where the lock bar meets and it should help dramatically. You can even just use a pencil rather than buying the graphite powder.

Way too messy for my taste. I far prefer a Teflon bearing dry lube, if I must use a dry. Normally I just use a small drop of CLP, since I have it readily available in my shop.

yeah, I got tons of both CLP and Graphite in my Armory. I tend to use the CLP all the time but I have two pounds of Graphite sitting around for high security lock maintenance so I figured I might be able to put it to good use.
