Dry Rot?

It was recently suggested to me that the inside of a leather sheath should never be sealed, since if both the outside and inside were sealed, the inner part of the leather could dry rot. I know it's pretty typical to seal them inside and out, though. Do you think this is a legitimate concern?

I'd like a "professional" answer to this question too...

I've only been sealing the outside for this reason -- to try and let the leather "breath" a bit. But I haven't been doing this long enough to know what makes a sheath (or any leather product) last the longest...
