Excessive hand washing has me standing in front my collection evaluating which models hurt less to open and close.
Spydie hole grinds through the split in my thumb. Many locks hurt to disengage.
This is working pretty good lately.

Something you can open and close ambidextrously will be the the best compromise.

The one in your picture would be pretty close to ideal.

If you live in an area that doesn't have silly knife laws, and if you're willing to modify a knife, the Smock gets even better without that 2nd detent ball and it's spring.

I'm a first responder. I'm allowed to have autos.
However I don't consider autos one hand operators.
I find two hand closing is ubiquitous.

I agree. You'd need an OTF full auto for it to be one handed.

The Smock's 2nd detent seems to appease the "gravity knife" type of laws, and simply makes the operation of the knife more deliberate.

I have the smooth G10 version and theres another thread running right now about someone who dropped his on the 3rd flick out of the box.

Without the 2nd detent, once the button is pushed, there's nothing holding the blade open or closed. Gravity indeed.

Overall it takes on an even gentler personality in operation.

I find my hands split like that every winter since I work outside with tools, dirt, and oil and solvent Even with gloves etc. to deal with the grime the still crack from cold. Never mind now where if you walk down a street you have to bathe your hands in alcohol gel every ten steps.

This stuff has been my go to for years and it works really well and it's not itchy which I find some to be.

Bag Balm at night, same for me with splits, hurts like a SOB. Light switch cover screws in the winter are the worst, static electric shocks jump right into the splits!

My hands are like that 6 months of the year. Carpenter in New England. Winter is rough on the mitts. my old man carries an axis lock benchmade for this very reason. My mitts get so bad, it just hurts most of the time and I get used to it every year. Sucks

I can open an close my protech knives one handed pretty easily. I do it when I’m not even thinking about it

5-by-5 5-by-5 , trust me on this - superglue. Thin layer right on the crack. By the time the glue wears off, the crack has healed sufficiently from underneath. And you can still use your knives normally.

Super.
Glue.
^^^^This! I use thin layer of Dermabond over the splits and let it wear off on its own. You can also get different consistency (super thin, Medium, And Gap filling )Cyanoacrylate
from hobby shops .

View attachment 1329714 I used to apply one layer of super glue and then a layer super glue gel. Too much screwing around. Now I just apply three layers of glue. It’s quite runny. Talk about relief.
The Crazy Glue brand has plunger tip that lets the glue out when depressed. I point the tip at the sky and burp the container on the underside of the kitchen table. I then invert the container make a little blob on a 3X5 card. The blob left on the tip goes in the crack. Wipe the tip on edge of the card to prepare for the second coat. After the coating dries (hair dryer speeds the process) apply another coat. Apply enough coats to bring the repair job to slightly above skin level. Be sure the tip is clean when storing the glue. I had trouble gluing the caps on tubes of glue.
Works best on dry skin.

I was told to switch to a non detergent soap. I got Dr Bronners organic sugar soap. Carried it with me.
Very dramatic recovery. My hands are smooth and don't look like old parchment paper.

Super glue works great as others have mentioned. It's really the best solution for small, clean cuts; especially in odd places.

Do you not modify your knives? Mine are easy as all heck to fling out. Sure they open up if I drop them, but with polishing and oiling you can get any spydie that's not lockback to be near reeves action. Even some lockbacks too!
