DT-12 Res-C handle cutaway pictures. Why it is hollow?

It's almost a stick tang.
Eh I wouldn’t say it’s a stick tang, there’s still a lot of meat on it and the way it’s tapered does reduce shock while keeping its strength. Thats why historical swords had tapered hidden tangs.

My concern is the tang being held in place by the lanyard hole alone and not filled in with some sort of resin or epoxy to really cement it in place.. or at least more Res-c.

But it’s good to mention only thing concerning is the picture and not the performance.

You'd think if one blade has flown out of a res-c handle, the attachment would have changed. It doesn't seem there's any big concern.
Regardless of handle attachment... it's always advisable to tell anyone in the surrounding area... when you're chopping... "Don't stand in front of or behind me."
Or better yet, "Go Away!" ;)

I’d say that it’s a deliberate tapering tang for better balance and vibration control.
I see no other motivation for doing so, it’s not going to be cheaper to produce.
They made an accidental mistake? Unlikely.

I forgot to ask. Did the bottom of the handle have any give when you squeezed it? I ask, because with that much hollow spacing there should have been a lot of give in the handle.

Mine feels pretty solid all the way from guard to hole. If there’s any difference, it’s nominal. I concentrated squeezing first top-to-bottom and then from the sides—imperceptible difference along the handle length. I don’t have godzilla grip like some of you youngsters, but I really can’t distinguish anything for sure. That was a simple test and very reassuring—thanks for suggesting it. 👍

Yeah, I would think that the resiprene is not stiff enough to keep you from testing if it has give in the hollow areas. For example, my free reign with the same handle feels solid with no give. I would bet there is no hollow area in there. But, there is no way to know for sure.

If there’s a gap for some reason we’re not aware of, I’m really not concerned as long as the grip is solid. And it does seem to be.
If a problem presents, such as loosening grip or possibly cracks in the Res-C under stress, over time, that’s just a warranty issue. No worries.
