I have a Scrade DU8DP "Ducks Unlimited" knife, and I'm curious about year of manufacture, and any other info. It has the etched blade, with two ducks, in gold. It also has a serial number stamped on the bolster. I believe the number is "2171".

I think the model may actually be "LB8", with the "DU" for Ducks Unlimited, and the "DP" for who knows what???

"DP" would be "Drop Point".

Heard of it, yes.
However, unless you can find documentation on them, it is very hard to date many Schrade knives.

I was thinking that they may have only made the "Ducks Unlimited" version of the LB8 in a certain year. It's a beautiful knife, and I was just trying to find more info on it.

Included papers might give substantial clues to the year of issue. As might packaging, or even the DU etch on the knife itself. Can you post a picture of the etch?

Not sure how to post a photo, but the blade is etched with "Ducks Unlimited" and 3 flying ducks(in gold). I looked at the paperwork, and the only clue as to date is "96/97" under the duckhead on the paperwork. Someone offered me $60 for the knife, and I wanted to find out more about it before I let it go.

Found the PO The date sure helped!

I've seen the DP's go for a lot more.
Love to see a picture of it.

Finally got a new camera..

Treeman: It would bring more than $60.00 if you were selling it on Ebay. I would not be surprised to see it go over $100.00 if two people both wanted it. You have the original paperwork and that nice display box too. It has a nice colored etch too. On another note, I thought DP might mean it was a drop point, which it is not. It is a standard LB-7/LB-8 clip blade. The knife was made for the box too, as a Drop Point would not fit in the slot of that green insert. Not sure the context of the "DP" you are seeing.

Sixty bucks sure wouldn't get it if it were my knife. Trailhawk is right...it would bring a lot more on the bay.

Regards.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll keep Ebay in mind. It is a beauty, I was just thinking about selling to get funds for another rifle. I got rid of most of my knives (Case, Schrade, and Queen), and I have this one, and a set of "Mammoth Ivory" handled knives that Sears sold years ago. I can't find any info on the Sears set, but they are high quality folders that were produced in Japan. I think the set was around $150 new. They are "scrimshawed" with different whales on each knife.
