Last Jan., I purchased a Dual Action 110 Buck Knife through "bladehq.com", who added the automatic function, which is no longer working (never did work very reliably). Now, "bladehq" tells me that they use outside people to add the automatic function, so they can't help me.
Can anybody give me some guidance on who I can go to to have this fixed?

GLR, welcome to the forum.

No on help on your issue but a suggestion...cut your losses and use as is.

I have toyed with and rejected the purchase of a Buck knife auto several times, my sense is that that their name notwithstanding they are just not durable.

Blade HQ may have sold a conversion but they did not do the work and guessing a caveat somewhere that no warranty applies. I've been to the mat with them on a separate issue pretty hot and heavy, would have been easy to tell me to buzz off but to their credit they did the right thing when a major and well respected manufacturer would not honor their written warranty.

Probaby someone who could repair, just remember my advice.

Best.

PS Save up and buy a ProTech.

The automatic conversions of the Buck 110 have a notoriety for being inconsistent and of less than optimal quality. It is not a secret at all. Some of the conversions are done by different people, some are machine shops that don't necessarily specialize in knives.your best bet is to start a thread here:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/871-Wanted-Knifemaker-Craftsman-Related-Services
And see if anyone would be willing to take on the task of repair. While the conversion is interesting, the knife is simply not designed for it, nor does it lend itself well to it.

Jan., 2013, I purchased this knife through "bladehq.com", who did the Automatic function (had it done). It never worked very smoothly, but now it (Auto) doesn't work at all. "Bladehq.com" basically says, "tough sh#t" ... find somebody to fix it (wonderful customer service). They apparently use a variety of people to add the Automatic function.
Does anybody know who I can contact to have my Automatic function repaired?

Unfortunately, it might be that the cost to have a qualified person properly repair it wouldn't be worth it in the end.

~$150 initial cost + parts/labor $$$ for the repair? You'd have an even more pricey modified Auto knife still w/o a warranty.

Sorry, I know it's not what you want to hear...

Welcome to Bladeforums!

I'm sorry about the problem, but these conversions are often unreliable. I combined both your threads and moved them to Wanted: Knifemaker / Craftsman / Related Services. Don't worry if the forum seems empty -- anyone can post here but only paid Knifemaker members can see all the threads.

I agree with recommendations for regular autos. Pro-Tech are really good, Piranha aren't bad either. You can ask for recommendations in the Auto forums for good manufacturers but the only conversions I would buy are from the knifemakers themselves who do the conversions, and can guarantee their work.
