When I get a new Buck [I collect rare/odd 112's ] It's decision time...In the box or on my belt. Im fairly new to collecting, just two years. My first collectable Buck was my 2006 BCCI club knife, a 111,mirror polished blade with the gold BCCI logo, NS bolsters, elk horn and my membership number. I was holding it in my hand wonderin if I should put it in my dresser when my wife said "Who are you saving it for ? " Wow,She had a point! It's not the kind of Buck I want to skin out a deer or take to work but it's PERFECT to use when we go out on the town or when I have a gig...Light carefull use lets me really enjoy owning it,collector values not totaly destroyed. My nice Bucks are really family heirlooms anyway not investments . I have a few protypes and super mint 112's that are really display only but using some of them as a DUC lets me enjoy my Bucks so much more than just putting them in a box! Try it you'll like it too.....

My DUC knives are all Case folders. One is a red bone CV Canoe, one is an Amber Bone Large Stockman which I carry in a vertical sheath on my belt, and one is an Amber Bone Large Trapper (the Stockman and the Trapper are both CV).

These knives are nice and dressy, and yet completely functional.

I really enjoy actualy using a fancy Buck instead of my normal EDC 112 or 532...My bandmates will ask me what I have on today. Just picking out the days DUC is fun to me! I like open top sheaths the most..At least with Buck sheaths all I have to do is just trim off the flap and they hold pertty securely.Once a 532 sheath loosened up too much but the fix was easy and simple...Soak it in hot water for 15 minutes or so then let it air dry for a few days...A perfect tight fit! There is just something about using a 'fancy' blade...I feel like a millionare!

My BF Canittler is my dress up knife. High polish D2 blades, with etched/engraved bolsters, and Mastedon ivory scales.

If I'm wearing black pants I take my all black Byrd Meadowlark. Because it has a black clip.

If I'm wearing Khakis then either my Rainbow Leek or my Kershaw Nakamura.

Usually an old Buck 503 with burgandy micarta scales. But sometimes I'll carry a 501, or even an old Boker stockman. Rarely I'll carry my great grandfather's small Imperial stockman or a nice old Ka-Bar stockman. I like my stockman patterns.

I look for something relatively small, but not necessarily a folder, and with a nice sheath.

I've used my Fallkniven TK1, but my Keith Ouye hunter is a real contender. I'd like a smaller version of the Mike Carter I just got for just that purpose. Beautiful, but a bit large for DUC. The thing about the FK is that it's even sheeple-friendly. Very classic and restrained design. Really, a gent's knife.

But to truly have" dress up carry " you need a custom sheath worthy of a nice knife, since its the first thing someone sees.Dave:)

I do not feel that one has to have a sheath at all. I do NOT carry any of those knives in a sheath. They are either in the bottom of a pocket or discreetly clipped.

Mine is usually something by Case. I'f I'm going to go the tactical route, it'll be my Kershaw Sapphire, and I I need big, it'll be my Al Mar Eagle Talon

My DUC is mostly a Case Canoe or, now siince I just got it, will be a medium Stockman by Case.

Jennifer,I have a dark maroon open top slim sheath for a Buck 532 that looks real classy with my BCCI club knife sliped in....I'll also sometimes carry a David Yellowhorse 'Lacy' 112 [His first standard pattern for Buck ] in a simular sheath that goes real well with a western suite or dress slacks and tie...If I want to be more discreat I use a Ducks Unlimted foldover sheath that looks like a cell phone belt holder [black cloth with a little gold ducks head] Sometimes you need to cut a peice of string or something when your dressed up..

A sheath on your belt or a tactical clip sticking out of your pocket is not "dress up". Ever.

WHy not? When my wife and I go to her companies Christmas party every year, I wear a small custom fixed blade in a highly polished black leather slip sheath. No one has ever commented on it negatively. It has cocobolo scales and brass bolsters, which show when in the sheath. I also have a wood handled, brass fitting multi-purpose tool with a home made slip sheath, which I wear on the opposite side of the knife. Looks pretty darn nice to me.
Usually I carry clip type knives though.
