Duck! Bounceback stories?

Just today I was practicing no-spin and I was using one of my cheaper sets of knives, it bounced back at me so fast my arm moved before I could think.

Short version, I caught it in my right hand, only one minor cut on my index finger. I lucked out, best part, no one was around to see my moment of shame haha.

I was in my basement which isnt finished so the floors just cement and i had a target up. I threw it and it bounced straight back and i saw it coming so i jumped and it flew right between my legs.

I spend time throwing in my backyard at a cardboard box with the lack of a target.
I was throwing my 6" kunai at it when it bounced off the corner and flew right at my face.
With enough time to weave to the right i was safe but it came pretty close.
Now i try to keep a good 15 feet from the target

I actually just started throwing, and made some small spikes to throw at a foam arrow trap in my garage. While getting down my distance, one bounced off the hard surface the trap was resting on, bounced up, hit the ceiling, and landed right in between my right arm and the side of my chest, where i had tucked it to avoid getting hit.

I was absolutely speechless, amazed and wishing i had some sort of camera to catch the amazingness.

The rest of the bounce backs have just hit my legs or have been easily dodged.

I throw knives at dead trees in the back yard. I have discovered that they are actually undead zombie trees because sometimes they throw the knives back at me! Gotta love it when the targets fight back.

I don't usually throw more than one knife at a target (because it destroys the knives when they hit each other). If a knife hits a knife, that is when I think that they can bounce back the most. But they can bounce back anyway. I have had a couple small nicks on the hand from swatting away knives bouncing back. It is something that I did without having time to think.

Sometimes I throw knives at objects like soda bottles or other stuff. If I try to hit with the sharp edge of the blade rather than the point, I might be able to cut it in half. Of course, I also get a lot of bounce backs that way. Various objects seem to cause more bounce backs than wood.

Hard throws bounce back more that soft throws. I'm trying to see what damage I can cause to the target, so I throw hard. Some of my friends throw soft because they are going for accuracy. It seems to me that they get less bouncing back at them.

I throw more bo shuriken (large ones) than knives but I've had to dodge a few of each. I did get hit in the leg a few months back but it was from about 15 feet away and only by the handle. I always have my eye on the blade mid air so I know if I'm over or under rotating, so getting out of the way is never a problem. I just got too comfortable this time and threw it mid stride (walking toward the target) and assumed it would stick. needless to say I'm more careful now.

one thing that does seem to help is padding the target with a 4-6 layers of cardboard. they still bounce back but the cardboard seems to take some of the energy out of the blade and it doesn't bounce as far. the only problem is cardboard doesn't last long as a target.

another thing to avoid is foam (hard packing foam). sometimes I throw very small darts (more like large needles) that don't always like to stick into dry wood. they stick into foam great but if you forget to take down the foam and land a big knife or shuriken on the flat its like playing ping pong with knives
