Duct tape sheaths, I know I am not the only one.

I agree --- whatever works. I use tough belting that I copper-riveted (kinda like a fire hose) on my half-hatchet. I use old garden hose on a bow saw and tough rubber hose (about the size of a big auto heater hose) on a 6' saw.

I have made 3-4 leather axe sheaths, but that was when we had a tannery in town and I could get "saddle-skirting-type" leather at a realistic price.

Bump, bump for my duct tape cruiser sheath.

I have got a couple ideas of my own or stolen from somewhere. My sister a retired elementary teacher gave my kids a big old pile of sheets of foam the size of a sheet of paper about an 1/8" thick, combined with Gorilla tape. these make a soft flexible cover,

I have heard of people using old fire hose, ain't found any yet. but the other day on the side of the road I noticed an old broken strap used to fasyen cargo on a semi trailer. 4 inches wide yellow nylon I thought i would cut 3 pieces, 2 sides and a welt cut to fit around the edge of the axe, a strap of elastic and some pop rivets to hold it all together, just cut out a piece the shape of the edge, sandwich between the 2 sides, maybe glue a little to hold it, then melt some holes for pop rivets around the edge. thenon one of the rivets a piece of elastic to pull behind the poll to keep it on.

Are hatchets with duct tape sheaths legal to carry in public? Please respond

How would I go about doing that. I have searched all over Google for Massachusetts laws but I can't find anything for blade weapons. Any help would be very appreciated.

I called my local police station and they said a hatchet is a dangerous weapon but it is just a tool. Are the police lieing to me?

Aren't hatchets counted as tools?

Your town office or police station would be the first place to look. Chances are you're fine, as it's a tool unless you're brandishing it about in a threatening manner, etc. but especially if you're in Mass then it never hurts to double (or triple) check. The internet is an awful place to get legal advice. :)

no! i'm not! i'm more like a log made ones... i cut a bit of log,i make a groove with chain saw, then i rough carve with hatchet, and when i find a vise,i refine it with drawknife. a car inner tube holds all that together!

Fine work. A few months ago I made a patch knife from a green river blank to give away as a blanket prize at a woodswalk. It was wickedly sharp, so I made something like 42Blades calls a hobo sheath just to make it safe. Well the friend of mine who picked it up was really happy with the knife and said he would make a sheath for it. The next time I saw him, he had indeed made a very nice sheath out of deerhide, using the cardboard and duct tape sheath as a liner and stiffener. It looked nice and worked well!
