Sorry for dropping in out of the blue with questions right off the bat, vacation and work has just had me absolutely hammered...
I have recently been getting back into RC stuff as my kids have taken an interest. I was looking at some very compact 2" brushless powered ducted fans used for jet style RC planes and wondered if anyone has set up a blown burner with one. It would have easy variable speed control, and some of these things put out a lot of air.... I tried a search and only found random mention of ducted fans.

I have set up five burners that will eventually run the "Sampo Forge" ( read the Kalevala). They have ducted fan blowers that came from some part of a fighter jet. I bought them surplus from the UK for a total of $50, and was told they cost the Govt. $700 each. They deliver 50CFM each, and are 2" OD. They run on 0-48VDC, with 28-32VDC being the optimum.

I took tail pipe extensions that they just slid into, and fit stainless flexible tailpipe onto that. I welded stainless pipe to the forge shell that the flex pipe fits over. Each blower will have an adjustable power supply, as well as a needle valve on the gas line, so they can be individually tuned. Just to make the whole burner look cool, I also got 3/8" stainless flex gas lines for each burner.
