Dude...

Great blade James!

Lorien, time for a saw

AVigil - Not mine, though it definitely is inspirational. Love Stuart's work!

Thanks for the new pics, Lorien.

What are the dimensions, or did I miss that somewhere?
Great looking bush sword. I am a big fan of Stuart's work:thumbup:
Darcy:)

What are the dimensions?

The blade is 16" long and the handle is 8". The blade is about 5/16" thick at the ricasso, and there is a mellow distal taper.

There is not a ton of meat behind the edge bevel, and the blade cuts deep.

This is not a great one handed knife for a weakling such as myself, but the handle is just the right length to get a firm, two handed grip. It's also grippy and comfortable. I really like the soft feel of the fabric, even though its been thoroughly soaked in epoxy. If he didn't tell me it was epoxied, I wouldn't have known.

This thing is the most heavy hitting knife of its kind that I've used. Too heavy for belt carry, but if I had to chose between this and an axe of equal weight, no question this would be my choice. I'll build a sheath for it that will accomodate pack and sash carry.

The timber I was hacking at in the video is cherry. The tree fell over and has had a season to start drying out. It's pretty easy to cut when it's green or decomposing, but it's pretty damn hard after a season or so.

Very impressed with the performance, no chipping, even with the fine edge. It rolled some here and there, but that's normal and easy to deal with.

that's a good question, Doug, and the answer is that I have no idea!
probably W2, that's my guess.

Nice video.. there were some big chunks flying.. I like that.. and less than 2 mins for something that big! Nice

Yes it is W2, (DHIII's) as always.

And to you Don, yeah I know the mark is suspect but a maker's mark is the biggest thing I've had trouble with. I just don't like the look of a name on a knife, a big glaring "BRANSON" just bothers me and interrupts the look of a piece. Now if I made bowies and had that nice framed canvas of a ricasso, then it wouldn't look out of place but seeing as I never seem to make that kind of knife I have tried to find other ways to mark them. I did have a stencil made with my signature but the lines were too thin and it never etched properly. Seeing as my leather sheath stamp has my signature and my name printed the signature has always seemed to be an okay way to go. But I'm still trying to find either a font for "Branson" that doesn't offend me or another way to identify my pieces.

Yes Lorien, that is about the worst sheath ever but the leather is on it's way from Wickett and Craig so we'll get that sorted.

I was pretty excited when I finished this one and tried it out in the yard. It bites deep and I could sever 1.5"-2" limbs in one swipe.

Stuart, you know I love your stuff. But yeah the mark needs some help.
Maybe learn to engrave. Or just come up with a small simple logo?

Thanks, I appreciate that.. As far as a "simple" logo.... I've been trying but it's proving not to be a "simple" process.

I'm working on a mark for another guy right now, and once I'm done the plan is to come up with something you'll be pleased to mark your work with :)

I just love that dao-like curve and flare, one of my favorite sword shapes.
