Duke 500 Question

Hi All,

I just wanted to show off a new addition to my Duke family. It's a stag with gold etched blade. I really like the bark on the stag. I've looked at a few of these on ebay. But, none of them had nice stag like this one. Thank you, Larry Oden (this is my favorite 500).

In addition, I got this one off ebay. It's bolsters are a little scratched. But, it has the same gold etch and year stamp on the blade, it has a wood handle. I don't see this one listed in the Blade Guide. Anyone have any info on this issue?

The mirror polished blades don't scan well; to much glare. The gold etching on these blades is very nice. Sorry the pics don't do them justice. I need to learn to use my wife's digital camera.

When is Buck going to reintroduce the Duke 500. So many want to buy it. I just don't understand. The 500 goes for sky-high prices on eBay.

Smoky Mountain has one with some kind of flag printing on the blade. I think it's about $50.

Those are some nice looking Dukes! I could not see the gold etched scene in the pictures though so I can't comment of where they came from. Are the scenes identical and what is the date code?
Hopefully we can find out what we need to know.

Joe, I don't know if you used the thumbnail feature on those pics. If you put the pointer of your mouse on one of the thumbnail and click it will enlarge the pic and you should be able to see the etch. Preston

Hi Joe,

The etching and date stamp (> 87) are identical. Both blades are mirror polished; the only difference in the blades is the Stag version has a number etched and the wood version has no number. Maybe there were a few blades left over from the stag edition? Oh, Preston's info about clicking on the thumb nail pic is correct the image will enlarge.

Seems a shame to ruin a good drop-point blade with etching...will the etching buff off??? :D

Funny thing those thumbnails...:foot: Ok, I got a good look at them and that project is the "Grazing deer" we did back in 1987. It was a 1000 piece run and they came with a wall plaque. MSRP was $125 at the time. I will do some more checking around to find the origin of the standard 500 with the same blade. You might be right that it is just a knife made from a left over blade but there may be more to it.
Hope this helps so far.

Hi Trax,

I'm sure if you were to use the heck out of the knife it would wear off in time;)

Thanks EEE,

I like the 500 as much as the 110 and there are fewer limited editions to collect....LOL.

I like your 500's, I've only got a couple now, shouldn't have sold the others.
Top 500 is from 2006, bottom is a red jigged bone from 2003, #98 of 100

Thanks for the help Joe,

I got this knife off ebay; it was for sale by the city of Boulder City, NV??? They had a very poor picture of the knife on the aution. But, I got it for $36.00 and thought if it was in realy bad condition I'd EDC it. But with a little TLC I think it will be close to new.

That air hockey table has fluorescent lights above it and seems to be the only place I can take glare-free pictures. I used my wife's Kodak EasyShare CX7430, I have no idea if it's a good one or not. I don't know if you want to play me....I've beat every kid in the neighborhood:D

Scott and JB You both have AWESOME looking 500's!!!!!!
Thanks chickentrax for the direct view!!!
