Dull New Sebenza 21 Small

"The small is for people who are too cheap to get the large".

Man, whoever told you that, is a freakin' FOOL. The small Sebenza is an excellent knife. I definitely want to get a large one soon too but, the small is pretty much perfect for most people's lifestyles. It will do just about any cutting job you need it do. It might not do all jobs you want it to do but it will absolutely get the jobs you need done, done.

Dull? Mine came off-center and the pivot kept coming loose right out of the box. I'd much rather have gotten a dull one.

Great knives overall, though. I haven't bought my last CRK, although I am trading out of my LG 21 right now. I actually really wanted a Small myself, thought it was a better size for that style of knife, but forums talked me out of the Small because apparently "The small is for people who are too cheap to get the large". Trading into a non-CRK but I'll save my dollars for a Small CF later on.

Maybe the issues with my Large were just fate telling me I should have gone with my gut.

I know that comment is not your original thought but geez whoever did say that is really stupid and ignorant. Yeah, buying a $350 knife instead of the $410 knife is what makes someone cheap. With that kind of logic I hope whoever articulated that thought hits a tree at full speed.

I have personally never heard anyone say that so it may well be an original thought, it seems he has reserved the right to be wrong though. :p

Thank you. No rush, but I would be grateful for any help. Pics showing close up of where to position the DMT on the exact part of edge would be awesome. Thanks again.

Here are the pics:

First shows how I would position the grip for the tanto part. I tried to fasten it almost attached to the thumb stud on my cqc-15. And I turned the clamp to put it as parallele as possible to the tanto edge. That allows you to work with least sweeping motions possible. You only need to move back and forth with the sharpeners.
Second is a side look at the angle I got by doing that. Note that I had to place the angle rod in the last (furthest from the hole) slot to get the proper angle for my cqc-15. This knife, having a single bevel has a real steep angle at the tanto portion (around 40 degrees).
And third is the angle I have between the tanto part and the hone. Almost 90 degrees and since I'm square with the hone and the hone is wide enough to cover the width of the tanto part, I only need to go back and forth :)
Hope these are useful.

Thank you, alibh. It was so nice of you to go out of your way to do this. If I can ever do anything for you let me know.

You're most welcome :)
That's what this place is all about. We all have the passion for blades (mine also extends to sharpening!) so its a pleasure..

Just get a sharpmaker and you will be happy with your sebenza. Mine came in dull as yours but it took me a couple minutes to turn it into razor sharp. Hope you will enjoy your knife.

Was this info picked up in the General forum or on a gun forum? Never heard such here.

It wasn't an exact quote, but a feeling I got from similar yet differently stated posts in the past. Partly here an partly in a YouTube review comparing them.

I have come to the conclusion that if I want a larger knife in my pocket, I generally end up carrying something overkill like my SnG. I'd rather have the Small Seb so I'm going to save for one in Carbon Fiber. I've seen both and compared the sizes in person and to me the Sebenza design just lends itself to the smaller size perfectly.
