Hi,

I just received a couple of Rain Bow Spyderflys in the mail. They are both completely dull. Is this common with the anodized, Rain Bow version of the Spyderfly? I don't think you could cut yourself with one if you tried. This is the first time I have ever received any Spyderco knives that weren't shaving sharp out of the box.

FWIW, none of my Spyderco knives were exceptionally sharp. So far that would be an Endura 4 and several Byrd knives (3 Starlings and a Crow). My BM mini-griptilian was ridiculously sharp. Most folks here report the opposite is generally the case (BM not as sharp as Spyderco).

The two I had were dull as well, which is the reason I don't have one now. Well, also it's impossible to sharpen based on the weird leaf shape, obtuse angle, and horrible recurve! BUT, YMMV. :)

If you read gollnicks review on the spyderfly on his site, he talks about the (EDIT:micro)-serrations which hinder push-cutting (like you would if you messed up a butterfly knife move) but can aid in draw cutting. I got my GF one of the rainbow spyderflys and she loves it and it is dull to the traditional nail test that Sal uses, but is pretty good at slashes out of the box...

I managed to give myself a nice gash on the tip of my ring finger with my Spyderfly straight out of the box.:( It's not the sharpest blade, but sharp enough for me to be a bit more careful in the future.
