Picked up 2 duluth packs that say Monarch on the bag. Made of canvas. One fairly large with a trump line. The other a little smaller. Leather thick straps. Old school. 20.00 for total for both of them. Keep checking the junk stores. Anyone use one? They are still being made. Seem kind of pricey to me. I have an old one from a canoe trip years ago. Still use it.

$20 for TWO Monarchs?
You stole them.

They are pricey, but once you buy one, you'll probably never have to replace it. They are pretty bombproof. If you like traditional gear, IMO, they are the top of the heap.

Sounds fair to me. Thanks for the post. I am excited about the find. Seems like there are some advantages for the canvas pack. Sometimes old school, vintage, equipment for the bush just seems right. Like an old axe, packbasket, flint and steel.

We used 'em up in the Quetico a long while back, when I was working at a canoe camp there one summer... you could slip one on and then flip the canoe onto your shoulders since they didn't have a frame, at least if you had the physique of a gorilla and could tote 150-200 lbs.

Sweet score

I purchased a Monarch #4 in 03 and at has been bomb proof. Best canoe packs around, IMO.

I'll be filling mine soon for a June 11th trip, can't wait.

There warranty is stellar, I also have a Sparky pack that my dogs chewed the carry handle off and some of a strap. I gave the pack to one of there guys at a trade show and they fixed it up no charge. Cost me the shipping to get it home.

Congrats
