1st time back in the shop in a long time (ie year).

Grinding on a rest, 8" wheel. Very slow (30%) to back into the swing of things.

Knife caught between the rest and the wheel, and filleted off 4 serrations.

I have all the rubber. I'm planning on super gluing them back on. any thoughts?

CA is brittle, epoxy like Gflex has more flexibility like the original wheel

Maybe try regrinding the outside of the wheel to smooth it out.

If that doesn't' last, you can get the wheel re coated.

First, I am glad you didn't fillet off four fingers. Wheels are repairable and replaceable.

I would try and repair it with a rubber compatible epoxy. G-flex should work. When done, you may need to sand it flush. Hopefully, it will not shake and be out of balance.

BTW, I bet you needed to change your shorts after that.

I once had a platen come loose and blow up a belt and shot through my spark collecting bucket. Scared the living heck out of me. Needless to say. I went in after that.

So this is probably a stupid question, but should I be wearing one of those leather aprons for grinding?
I've seen all the buffer horror stories, but not so much on the grinder.

I wear to One to keep the all the little steel bits Out of my clothes.

I actually do wear one. Picked it up on ebay for $10 or something like that.

Honestly, I have no idea what happened to the knife, other than in 1sec it was in my hand, the next I realized it had wedged it self between the rest and the wheel, and landed on the floor. No idea of the path it took to get from my hand to the floor.

big shout out to Ken Coats. Took the wheel to him to look at, and he fixed it right up. Didn't even hesitate.

Thanks Ken!!!!

Happened to me once shaping a stainless bolster. Platen wasn't tighten down all the way and came out a tid bit. Bolster shot through the platen and belt straight into my water bucket, puncturing a hole in it and gushing water all over the garage!! Also ripped a 6 inch gash in my belt. Definitely paying more attention to the platen the occasional times I use it.
