Tomorrow morning--you will be taken to a remote wilderness area in the Canadian Rockies and dumped.

(We'll assume, for the point of argument, that we're all young and strong enough to withstand the physical demands of the adventure at this time.)

You will have a compass and map that will lead you to a stream and a small lake. This may involve a few miles of wilderness travel and you will want to get there for water before your canteen runs out.

You will be provided with a well-stocked basic survival kit (yes, you get matches and hook, line and sinker) 50 feet of light rope, a small tarp and sleeping bag and a food pack with five freeze-dried meals, five cans of beans, and some flour, coffee, sugar, salt, cooking oil and a small cooking pot.

You will be left for 20 days to survive on your own. Yes, besides Bigfoot, there may be things out there in the dark with claws and teeth that could kill you. You can have 10 rounds of ammunition for the firearm of your choice.

You will get $10,000 for every freeze-dried meal and can of beans that you bring back intact.

What single Buck knife do you choose to take with you......and what gun?

And what's your strategy to come back as rich as possible?

And.......have a nice weekend.

:D

I would bring my father's black bucklite, it has been working great for over 20 years. As for a firearm the german ERMA SR-100 in .300 winchester mag, although possibly overkill I think that it would take down medium sized game well. As for a strategy I would start fishing right away and setting up small animal traps other than that essentially starve, people have gone much longer without food.

Keep in mind that you don't want to lug any more weight than you have to......and you can choose shotgun, rifle or pistol (if you're a real good pistolero).

Myself, I was considering a small single shot shotgun.

Still thinking about the knife.

:)

I'll take a rifled barle 12ga shotgun, 3 sabot slugs & 7 size 7 birdshot, and my AG 110. Sounds like fun when do we go? 20 days alone in the CA woods is my kind of dream vacation ;).

Wait just one minute!!!

You only get TEN rounds!!

And DREAM vacation?

Remember.......this is WILDERNESS! No internet hookup and no way to buy knives or even browse.

Sounds tough to me.

:D

Does is have to be a buck Knife? As for a rifle....maybe a fn-fal. 7.62 seems to be a pretty versitle round. It would either be that or a 12GA 2 slugs, 4 buck shot, and 4 bird shot.

I would trap, graze and try to use the weapon mostly in a defensive role. I could stand to loose a few pounds. I agree this would be a dream vacation

Probably a standard 6" skinner (brand unimportant) and a Savage 308 scout rifle with a 1X4 scope on see through rings, 3 rounds 22 sabot, 3 rounds 178 BTHP, 4 rounds 155 PSP. I can shoot and skin anything up to a bear and it not weigh too much. Again, I would start fishing first. When we leaving?

No.....it's gotta be a Buck (after all, this IS the Buck Forum).

:D

Skinner, huh? Shall we put you down for a 121, a Kalinga, a 103, a 105 or a plain old 119? Other?

Can I leave now?

Think I would take a Ruger GP100, 6in. No need to shoot anything big, can't eat it quick enough and I'm not trying to store/smoke meat in a case like that.

Randall 15 or maybe the Hoodlum (haven't used it enough yet to make that call).

+1 on the fully rifled shotgun ...

My remington 870 express with fully rifled barrel & scope. I have it mounted so that the irons can be used for birds, etc... Sabot slugs & #6 shot - would cover most of the basics from small game up to defence against 'mama griz.' Probably a 20-80 ratio of slugs to birdshot. Buck vanguard would been to be a good 'do-all' (jack of all tasks master of none) wilderness survival blade.

The only down side to this rig is that is heavy to carry more than 50+ shotgun shells. 100 rounds would probably be enough for the time period of 20 days - even including a few missed shots. I typically fire 5-6 shots for every 2 kills when bird hunting.

Modified my post to 10, 3 + 7 =10

We all like different things in life BG. One of my fondest trips into the deep woods was with a fellow I worked with. We spent 3 days on a back pack trip up by Mount Shasta in the deep woods. We took no food, just sleeping bags & Guns. We ate well, Goose, Duck, & squirrel. We built a lean too out of redwood bark, it was rain proof and it was a good thing as it rained for one of the days we were in-country. That is how I equate it as fun and not tough.

Now if you said we had to spend the 20 days out doors in the snow.....then it turns to tough, staying alive & finding food. Other wise it's pure fun to me!

Dont know about the gun, I don't even own one, (I'd bring my PSE X Force) but living in the Canadian Wilderness and frequently heading out into the forrest to camp and explore, I always bring my "do it all knife" Intrepid Chisel Tip full tang. The 110 Ti CF comes too but if only 1 knife, it'd be the Intrepid.

12G #4BK Single shot will work.

110AG

How many fishhooks do I get. Make them Trebel hooks and 20 pound line :D

Trade the flour and sugar for more beans.

Given that your picture is from Stanley Park, I would take no knife or gun. I would walk back into town with the food and collect the $100000 :D

remington model 700

Since I have no axe or saw I would take a Buck Hoodlum, I think I would want something big enought o build shelter and process fire wood. Pretty sure it gets awful cold up in the candian rockies.

Now if I had an axe with me then I would select a smaller blade.

Well, I would take Ruger 10-22 for small game which will be more abundant than larger animals. As for a knife it would be a 119. For a stragity I would secure shelter, get water, start a fire. After all the creature comforts are done I'd look for something to eat. I'd probably eat something I brought the first night and the next day find food. I'm an opportunist and very aware of my surroundings. I'd set a few snare traps but I wouldn't rely on them. 20 days is alot when you have nothing but with the equipment given it isn;t a problem, even for old guys like BG

Can My dog come, I'll share my beans with him...
