Over the last few weeks, I introduced our 11 year-old son to Crocodile Dundee. He loved all three movies, just like his dad. :D

Anyway, I did a little more research on "the knife" and here's an update.

Apparently, Dan Watson of Angel Sword forged the original Bowie and John Bowring made the props. Here is the reply that I received from Angel Sword...

"Dan Watson forged the ORIGINAL Dundee bowie which someone (maybe Bowring) bought at the New York Ren Fair. Then Bowring (who I believe is
credited in the film as props/armorer/weapons) made copies of the knife for the film in rubber and aluminum. I believe Paul Hogan has THE original Angel Dundee bowie. We had several inquiries about doing a small run of Dundee Bowies. I have brought it to Dan's attention a few times. Definitely keep watching the website in the new blades section."

Actually, a Puma on 'roids. I heard that it was designed after a Puma Bowie. You can really see a resemblance in the guard.

Here's something else that's sad - the knife they're trying to pass off as a Dundee Bowie on eBay. See the photo of Paul Hogan holding a knife? It's been Photo Shopped! The bottom photo shows him holding the actual knife.

apparently their target shoppers are the all of ten people that havn't at least seen the first movie.

I still find it hard to believe that a replica was not done.

A licensed repro would have been a huge seller back when the movies were popular. Someone missed some bucks!

It seems like a simple design compared to some of the movie knives that are available. Maybe someday?

For anyone interested. I emailed the sheath maker and here's the reply:

"Those were made exclusively for the film and the film company holds the copyright to them therefore both the bowie knife maker and I will not reproduce them.

The last time one of the original sold at auction it fetched several thousand dollars as you probably know.

Thank you for your inquiry. I have had several requests over the years and unfortunatly each time I have replied with the same answer.

Regards
Chantal"

A company called down under knives is making it. I just bought one. 440 stainless but heat treated to take some abuse(not all).
