Stumbled on this photo. Just adding it to the thread.

Someone would make an absolute fortune if they bought the rights to put the knife into production!

I have tried to draft multiple versions on CAD based on pictures, but each one is JUST not quite right.

I have been looking for a custom knife maker in the Brisbane area to help with coming up with the design, but have been unsuccessful in finding one. It is truly a mystery knife.

If anyone could find the dimensions or even a estimated thickness, for the original one used in the "Thats not a knife..." scene. That's one of the things I'm chasing.

It just looks light enough to flick around like he does during the movies. Unlike the Down Under Knives knife which is really too heavy to carry daily. (got one)

I own that knife. That's the one from Downunder Knives. It's NICE!

I looked into that knife a couple of times but couldn't find anyone who really abused it. It's rather expensive so I was worried it was just to look cool. Have you used it a lot and what did you do with it? does it work as good as it looks?

P.S. I really like a knife I can abuse so please specify if you just done a little chopping or really worked it hard

Thanks!

I have the Outback bowie. I've used it extensively for chopping, not really a good utility knife though because of the weight. It is quite a good chopper, and there are not many choppers that look as cool.

Because of the 440C you have to be really careful not to chip it. I have found that the edge and very tip doesnt take much to chip.

All in all it's a great looking knife with the balls to be used for heavy purposes. Just look after that edge!

Down Under Knives make a dundee bowie called the Outback.

(( You haven't read the references to this all through the thread. They were banned from BF. I will allow discussion of the knife, but not an advertising video from the company. ))

I actually spoke to John Bowring (the armourer for the movies and apparent designer of the knife) on the phone. (I originally emailed him, and he called me back.)

I asked if he would consider making an exact working replica for my own personal collection. Well paid for of course. He said that he had not even made one for himself! I couldn't believe it! So anyway, I asked if he could give me a few pointers about having a custom one made, and he told me that it was his design and his copyright so he wasn't going to help me with exact specifications or close. I understand, I'd probably feel the same way if I was protecting my own design.

So anyway, that is where my search ended really. There are so many attempted replica's around, but none of them are "just right." I think my next move will be to call the owner of the Crocodile Dundee movie franchise and talk to him about getting some more info or even suggesting that he and I team up and re-create the knife for a limited number of production line. Just for the collectors and dreamers out there.

I'll let you all know if anything eventuates. If you can point me in any other direction, PLEASE DO!! as this move would be an absolute last resort. I've been searching long enough.

What a load of S###. I'm sorry but since he's not doing anything with the design (clearly since the design can't be found anywhere) the least he could've done is help a brother out.

An ill informed comment and one that many would find offensive.
True enough... After the "real" Dundee allegedly invaded a home and assaulted the family within, he shot a few cops on his way down.

However, I'm a big fan of the movies, and also of the bowie as a general purpose camp tool. I have a Western W49 that's been slightly modified, and it's my go-to big blade for camping trips. Also have & use an Ontario SP10 (Marine Raider Bowie), but seem to gravitate more toward the Western for its traditional styling.

I think Progressive may have an insurance package for knives, haha

That's a major factor too, I can't use a $1500 butter knife, when a knife cost more than a gun I get weary. I'll pay for a good knife but not so much that I'd be sick if something happened to it.
