Anyone Duracoat or Gunkote a blade and then etch their logo into it? Just wondering if the electro etcher will work or will the logo need to be laser etched.

Electroetching will have zero effect on a coating.
Either etch and then coat or laser or water cut through the coating.
The problem I see with that, is that the coating is usually there to provide corrosion protection.
Some logos are applied over the coating in a contrasting color coating.

Etch it deep, then gun-kote over it. If it is deep enough it will show through.

Since the blades are S30-V, I was thinking of having them laser etched. Kinda like RAT does? They will be matte black Duracoat.

I've used Gun-kote a lot.
I've tried to electro etch over the coating a few times. It's never worked. I think because of the coating I didn't get the electrical connection needed.
I have etched real deep and then coated over though. That did work for me.
That was suggested to me by Ed Kalfayan.

As far as I remember I etched for about 3 minutes. At almost full power.
I'm using a Personalizer Plus etcher.

And of course it depends on how thick you spray the coating on over the etched logo also. I usually get a good thin coating. The thicker you spray it on the deeper your etch will have to be.

Have you successfully etched with a waterjet after coating? Its hard to imagine that the WJ wouldn't blast the peripheral area to some degree. Plus, it's hard to imagine how one would set up the WJ parameters so the "pierce" (start point) is not deeper/wider than the rest of the logo.

I'm basing my skepticism on my experience with a 15-yr old machine, so perhaps David can comment on that.

Patrick, I know it will work with a laser etch, but was guessing at a waterjet etch.
From what I've seen David do with his, I was thinking it was a possibility.
