Durn near cut my finger off sharpening an Everest Katana

I've got one that bad on the tip of my right trigger finger, I still can't feel it to this day. Can come in handy sometimes when grabbing hot pots and pans...

How?

How does one cut fingertip make the rest of your hand impervious to heat?

Thank you for all the well-wishing, bros. The part of the edge that fell on my finger was the off-the-shelf edge that Bura put on. These things arrive sharp right out of the box. I sure as heck learned my lesson. Maybe this pic will scare somebody else into remaining vigilant on the caution front:

I feel your clumsy thoughtless pain brother.

WOW, you can pick up pots and pans with a single finger tip!

I am just an EMT-B but I am fairly certain that the rest of your hand has nerves. I am also concerned how you can safely fire your arsenal when you have no sensitivity in your finger. Wait a minute, didn't I see a movie where you were a sniper and got your finger cut off while being tortured?

Wow UD, sorry to hear about your owie. I'm wondering if this has something to do with your fantastic HI kuk sale over on Rammy? (Great stuff, real cheap guys so check it out.)

With our hobby I guess the sharp stuff is bound to cut ya sooner or later. Can't remember the last time I cut myself for a long time, but then last month youch two in one week. One caught a vein in my thumb so much preferable to an artery, but still.

I plan on gifting that particular sirupate that bit me twice.:p

No... I just thinned out the herd to folks that might use the stuff more than I do. Since a disc crunched in my spine, I'm just not using my HIs like I used to. Its not fair to these blades to just let them sit around - they belong in something that needs to be cut. They are such good workers. I wanted to keep my babies "in the family" rather than try & make money off them so I offered them up at Rammy. (No worries, I still have a lot of HIs left...)

Forums of Ramanon... cool folks...

I think I got just a little too nonchalant about the sharp object thing. I've sharpened dozens of blades hundreds of times & got so comfortable that I lost respect. To top it off, my wife's mantra has been "Don't cut yourself!" And of course my reply was always, "Don't worry honey, I know what I'm doing..."

Looking her in the eye probably hurt worse than the cut did. Anyway I hope you heal fast without any complications.

Ouch!! I go away for a few weeks and you guys start slicin' parts off! Dang, I'm glad the doc got you sewed back up UD. That definitely qualifies for the safety sticky .

Not the rest of my hand, just that finger... duh. And it was with a utility knife, sharpening a pencil...

OK, we had guessed you do not actually use real knives. Answer the question about how a finger tip translates to your entire hand being impervious to heat. Maybe you have replaced the finger tip with a super duty rare earth magnet!!

Quite enough guys. Go play somewhere else.

what did the doctor say when you told him you were sharpening your sword ?

get well soon, that looks nasty.

i got a scar on my thumb from trying to pull a double edge benchmade push dagger from its sheath, the first day i got it too. the sheath is pretty stiff till you break it in a bit.

Sorry to hear the finger cut, prayers for fast recovery

If the doctor was like that drill sergeant on the Geico TV commercial ,

he probably said:
"Walk it off, you jackwagon!"

I miss the days of political incorrectness

But in all seriousness, Ramanon forums (mentioned here earlier) has a terrible picture of what might happen if you took a kukri to someones face (he survived, by the way). It's probably easy enough to find elsewhere on the net too. I strongly caution you against looking for it if you want to eat ever again or are a minor. This photo gives one an idea of why you might have better luck arguing self defense after shooting an assailant than after going all "Resident Evil" on them with a big ole knife weighing 30oz or so.

Even in places like my location where they don't allow guns at all! :grumpy:  :D

I am sure any argentian infantry soldiers from the falklands adventure can let you know what it's like to be on the receiving end of a khukuri.
