I need to get a dust collector, was wondering if anyone used a Torit type collector ( bin with shaker bags), I have used this type for many years in the machine shop and its good for steel fines just was wondering about the other nasty stuff, wood, micarta, etc. Was thinking of venting to the outside for fumes? I'm new to knifemaking and this forum would appreciate input

thanks

The long answer is to read this website:

The short answer, proven by my own experience in 2 different woodworking shops, and even with custom made bags made from "99% efficient filter fabric". is that a lot of fine dust makes it through shaker bags. If the dust collector is outdoors or is vented outdoors, not a problem unless the wind blows the dust back into the shop. Indoors it's a real problem.

The best think I ever did was to pipe the exhaust outside, no holes, no leaks, no bag blowing off, more suction. If possible send it directly back to nature.
