Today we start another Millie frame lock conversion. These are big jobs and take up a good bit of titanium but the end result is well worth it I think. What we have is a lock that slides at the contact like it may close on this one when its tested or when pressure is applied to the tip of the blade when opened and the owner no longer trusts it much so it will be converted to a frame lock on just the lock side in thicker .140 titanium over the next few days. Stay tuned we'll be starting on it soon.

Wow !! Postal service must have been working overtime this weekend.
Cant wait.

Got her apart. Next step is cutting out the traced out pattern on my .140 thick titanium sheet.

Progress pics

Lock slab has all holes drilled and is cut out, and our test fit is spot on as I'd hoped. Here we have the new side in a view showing the tracing for the long cut which is the next step in creating the lock. Short cut is done. Second pic is a test fit. I had the screws in to be sure they all catch which they do and fine, then we'll recess all our holes after the mill gets done on the lock, cut our lock relief, bead blast after final shaping, set the detent and call it done. I doubt all that will take place today but you never know. :D

Looking great Steve, nothing like the step by step action.
Thanks Dwight

Dwight I managed to be able to get the holes recessed for all the screws before my wife snagged me for grass cutting and other outside yard jobs. I'll pick up on it later tomorrow my friend. Sorry. I had hoped to have it done today but no go.

Moving right along today on the Millie Dwight.

I have it ready to get to the tough a$$ grinding part next but for now its break time in Oklahoma. :D

Here we have two shots. One showing the excess, recessed holes, detent hole drilled and long and short cut of the lock finished up. Next shot is the inside showing my double lock relief where I'll make the bend to spring the lock.

Near finished now. Need to refine it tomorrow in the front lock relief, and a couple of high spots and make a low rider pocket clip for it and we'll be there on this one my friend.

Looks great Steve, just keep doing your magic, cant wait .
Thanks Dwight

Dwight's Millie is, let see whats the word, done, no, well yeah its done but gosh what is that word? Oh yeah! Perfect!

It goes out in the mail to you in the morning Dwight. It should just get better and better for ya now. Original parts, clip, lock, opposite G10 scale, spacer and center lanyard tube which I didn't reuse are all in a baggy for you. I suppose if you want to install the sleeve in back with the spacer that you could. I did it in the last one but felt it was not going to hold since I have no way of reflaring the end. It may need tweaked shorter if you do. I'm sure you can get it in there but there will be excess. Pretty sure.

Thanks for trusting me with your beauty here. It only bit me once and not bad. :D

Thanks Steve, looks great, cant wait to get my hands on it, I believe this will make the ultimate edc knife for me, big guy, big knife.

Dwight is a friend on mine and he is going to show it to me. That looks GREAT Steve and I cant wait to see it too! It may make me spend more money! Kevin:)

Millie made it home today, very impressive finally a blade that I like and brute strong to match, this thing has the whole package, moved this spyderco in to a whole new league, Thanks Steve, you have out done yourself on this one. Dwight:D

I knew you'd love it. Can't help but love that one. Its got all the makings of one that is going to be a nice user for generations I think. Kind of a hand me down quality of build.

Sometimes when I put together some tank of a folder like that whether it be one of my own from scratch or a rebuild I often sit and think how 50 or more years from now long after I'm dead and buried how someone will be posting somewhere on whatever medium for communication people use then wanting to know about this huge folder from back in the early 2000s made by Spyderco but with some obscure STR initials on the inside that were never noticed right away.

It would be interesting to be able to see the replies when and if but its just a pipe dream fantasy thing that sometimes enters my mind when I see something built that way to last. Knives like that are probably going to be around a lot longer than any user in normal use you know?

I also forsee a day with more and more restrictions when knives of that ilk will be things of the past and highly illegal in civilized society too. Unfortunate but seems to be the course we are on. Enjoy it Dwight. Its a gem I think.

Thanks again Steve, I do want to send it back someday after I wear the new off and need another job done, and if you would place your STR mark on the outside, this is one for both of us to be proud of, I sure wont be shy about who done the work and showing it off, I am also going to post to Sal at spyderco,I need to get it in his hands because they just dont know what they are missing out on.:thumbup: Dwight
