and what is your way to perfect a great look

Potassium Permanganate, you can make almost any deer antler look like Sambar Bark depending how many coats of it or how many times you go over it. the nice creamy color under the Bark is a different story. Some Elk, Axis, and European Red Deer looks pretty close, good luck.

Is it wet or paste like or does potassium permanganate come dry, in powder or crystal form ? And if so, how do you prepare it for use and what is the proper method of application ? I have wondered about this for quite some time now.

Comes in powder form. Used for water softeners and I get mine from sears. Just add water slowly and test to get the colors you are after.

I use Fiebing leather dye. i already had it around for dying maple and Russ Andrews told me he used it for stag. I didn't have very good luck with PP and I have seen some stag com out purple/pink from using it.
