dyed/stabilised wood

Hi there fellas

I have a project, and I need to find some burls that are dyed/stabilised in large sizes.

I need a 6" x 2" x 1/2" pair, times two.

I've searched all the normal suppliers sites and can't find the larger stuff.

anyone know of a supplier?

Unfortunately your project requirement appears to be larger than the "standard size scales" which, in most cases are ~ 5" L x 1-1/2" W x 3/16"-1/2" thick.

Three guys come to mind that might have something that will work for you

First is TracyMickly at USA Knifemakers Supply. His blocks and scales, if I remember right, are bigger than the norm. He has some great looking burls too ! Tracys a great guy and is one who will go the extra mile for you. No doubt about it :thumbup: If you don't see it on his site call him and ask if he has what you're looking for.

Have you checked ChuckBybee at Alpha Knife Supply ? His scale & block sizes vary. You may also be able to contact him about cutting something a little bigger for you. http://www.alphaknifesupply.com/
Call him, Chucks a great guy to talk with and he'll go out of his way to help you

You might also try MikeLudeman at WSSI. I'm pretty sure he keeps a supply of stabilized wood to sell, along with the stabilizing service's they provide. He may have something he can cut to your required size. Call him and ask. Mikes also a cool cat

See a trend here ? Calling them might be the best route to a custom size piece that hasn't been cut to the standard size .... yet

thanks for the info people.

being in Australia I have a hard time getting myself in the correct timezone for phonecalls, and AKS has already stated that they won't ship to Australia on a CC transaction due to previous fraud, which is fair enough. Problem is my nearest branch for an international transfer is about ten hours drive.

I'll try the other two via email and see where that gets me. I have the luxury of having a couple of months to sort this out.

I keep a low profile except at knife shows and wholesale production, but you are most welcome to contact me. I produce dyed stabilized figured and burl woods and ship world wide. I don't do "custom" colors, but one of my stock colors might work. Custom sizes can be done and I ship world wide almost daily. cheers...Larry Davis

For Dyed Stabilised wood try uncle Frank at http://www.jakeknife.com great guy im amazed more of you guy's don't know him yet .his wood will amaze you about 90% of the time he has several color's avail if not in stock . yes he is a Friend of mine but his good's speak for themselves . i know some of you guy's have seen him /his wood at a few show's he was at the guild show a while back leaving wood samples as business card's . im just real curious why no one ever recomend's him ??:foot:
