Dyeing Grivory: Is it Possible?

Just curious if anyone has tried dyeing the grivory handles of a Becker. I've used leather dye to change the color of micarta, but I'm sure that works because of their permeability. Is it possible to do so to the grivory handles? I'm thinking especially of the peanut butter colored ones on a BK17?

Somebody did that, don't remember who, but it seems like they turned out pretty good.

I've never seen dye work on black "plastics"? Maybe the tan tweener scales will dye, but idk about any of the black?

I have no recollection, but I found these pictures in my Photobucket.

In both instances, a tan gizmo has been dyed to become a greenish gizmo (on the right side of the picture).

I thought somebody dyed their peanut butter scales. Maybe not. It would be the first time I was wrong however.

Yeah, tan will take color. I've seen some pretty crazy colors come out of pmags and other polymer pieces over my years in law enforcement and private security. Saw some once that looked like the yellow crud that accumulates around your toilet, if you don't clean it. The guy was happy with em too :P

That's not bad. I would like the PB ones darker and greener, if possible. That looks like it might do it.

I never thought of dyeing a PMAG but I bet it would be pretty similar. Maybe I'll try some dye on the bottom of one and see if it takes. Thanks.

You sir, are a poet.
Ty, that means so much to me <3

The yellow crud of my toilet beckons.
Down in the valley of porcelain gloss
lies a majesty of ochre and brown.
"Can I get an AR-15 in this color?"

Use the lil covers that snap onto the mag for practice.

The tweenet scales I believe are made from zytel, which takes dye, look up the eskabar scales people have dyed, a few dudes have dyed the orange ones. But I have never seen black grivory dyed.

Its the peanut butter ones on a BK17 that I'm thinking about dyeing. I figured black was a lost cause; although I have seen black ones with tiger stripes painted on them.

Anybody have any idea if eventually there will be replacement micarta scales for the 16 & 17 like there is for the earlier models?

You are not wrong, I believe it was RogueBowie.
Wait I don't think he dyed the peanut butter scales actually, idk I can't remember

Hey murph which green did you use? dark green, kelly, olive ?

I could only find the Kelly green in my area, so I darkened it up with dark brown. I did it by sight and then later found out RIT has a recipe chart on their site.
