Dyeing wood?

I want to dye wood different colors specifically red and blue for a project I am working on. (restoring and Opinel) Any suggestions to get a good dark color?

I have had good results using alcohol based dyes from Guitar Reranch, they are marketed for guitar making, but wood is wood. Dan
