E&E giveaway contest....Good stuff here folks! WINNER ANNOUNCED!!

Just slightly! My hands felt like crap for an hour or two after handling the stuff. Tying the ends for the bowdrill was painful to say the least.

In the spirit of E&E, I got an itch to have a little fire. I took a quick drive to the parking lot of the local trailhead, to see what if anything, I could salvage to fullfill the need for heat.

Looking around the parking lot, I came up with some left overs from a trail maintenance crew.

This looked like dryer lint, not really sure what it was but since there was a mountainbiker attacked by a bear last year in there, I guess this could be some hikers Levi's pasteurized by bear innards. ( It didnt smell of Pepper spray, and contained no bells) It did however contain a fair amount of hair

Located a busted lighter, and an almost empty carmex jar. along with a small tuft of the mystery stuff.

Found someones map ( Freebee...........)

IMG_0073-1.jpg

So we have Carmex, linty stuff, a stick, a map, and a pine cone,
IMG_0076-1.jpg

I smashed the pine cone, scraped out the remaining carmex and smeared it on the linty stuff. Since the map was for a place 60 miles away, It was sacrificed in the name of peace( I had to get back to work).

hunker down, using the striker of the lighter to throw a spark............ and

repeat, repeat, repeat, take a break.... fluff some more, and finally,

one out of focus tiny carmex fluff and fire.

Since this actually worked, I ran in the house to get some other samples to try and found chapstick, bag balm, burts bees hand salve, and even alcohol pads from the med kit all works well also.
I went out today, to get a non-blurred fire photo, and the busted lighter gave up the ghost.

How would you get along if out in the woods and your glasses break ( assuming you need glasses of course.) It could be glasses for those with bad vision , reading glasses for those who have been afflicted with A.G.E. , or sunglasses on a to prevent snow blindness , in either situation something as simple as a missing screw, can make for a challenging walk home.

IMG_0083.jpg

Emergency repairs for a missing screw can involve a treading a piece of wire, ( garbage bag tie, paperclip, staple) through the screw holes and twisting it closed.

IMG_0088.jpg

It can be sewn closed with thread, fishing line, or even a inner strand from para-cord . Also a twig can be jammed in the screw hole from below and screwed in tight to hold the lens in the frame till you get to safety.

IMG_0109.jpg

If the frame totally broke during a fall.,fight, accident etc., in the boonies, this is one way would I cope.

IMG_0096.jpg

I cut a flexible twig, and two pieces of innertub.
I threadded the tubes onto the thicker end of the twig and inserted the lenses

IMG_0097.jpg

IMG_0098.jpg

then scored the twig so I could bend it around my head and tied the ends together to secure it to my noggin.

now I can guarantee these will not get you dates. but they will allow you to see your way to keep moving.

I honestly found that one of the most useful tools to have is a good stout stick. :D

Seriously, I wouldn't have made it a few days ago without one. See this thread.

Alas, the camera is on the fritz. Might be time for a new one. :(

But the one on my phone works pretty well. :)

I had to cut some cheese up, and as I pulled out my knife I realized that this would be a perfect improv situation.

Something I put together today. My RC3, Strobe light, and a BSA Sparker.

Ok, I don't know if i can write this, so if you have to take it down thats cool.
I have a my lip 14 gauge, eye brow 14 gauge, ear 4 gauge, and "something else" pierced 8 gauge. With that being said I always have some 550 cord on me as well. So if need be i always have 4 fishing hooks and line on me at all time, LOL.
