E&E kit contest

Automatic center punch is a tool for marking metal to drill holes. Ever try to drill flat metal especially with a battery/electric hand drill the bit goes everywhere. The punch will make short work of any glass you may need to get through. You can get them for about $3 and they are invaluable if you have to break tempered or safety glass. I am going to put together a kit with the items I have listed to see how it fits. I am pretty sure using the cloth pouch should accommodate all the listed items. It may be a stretch to get it all into the ziplock bag but its worth a shot. I am also adding a plastic handcuff key to the list. I know someone already listed it but I thought about adding it all day at work the other day but forgot to. I am also cutting back to one arrowhead as its probably not worth the money to have two with the other stuff. I have tried to remove what would not be needed for an E&E situation. There is so much good stuff to add but the space requirement is key. Otherwise you will end up with a duffel bag slung across your back.

Stole this from youtube to demo the punch. You can take them apart and fit the whole thing in the handle so the tip is not dangerous but then you have to put it back together to use it which is not quick.

I have changed the case to a Lowepro camera case:

It's slightly bigger, little softer, and better organized.

For clarity, I've made a partial list of items so far:

1. Fox E05 AAA light
2. Condoms (2)
3. Mini-Bic
4. Small ferro-rod + 1 PJCB tinder straw
5. Handcuff Key
6. Leatherman Squirt PS4
7. Button compass (Suunto now, Tru-Nord ordered)
8. Micropur water tabs (4)
9. Photon LED, red

This is a starting point. There are a few other items in the kit already, and few items that are wanting. And then there are those ideas that I haven't thought of....yet. This is not the correct answer. If there is something on the list that should not be there, please let me know. The kit can (will) certainly evolve.

Remember also, the kit is small by design, and won't hold some larger items like a poncho, space blanket, microwave, etc....
I'm also working under the assumption that I'll have a larger multitool and knife with me at all times. This is a small repository of items that one might find useful and might be hidden on one's (my) person if things go pear shaped.

A question,if I may?
1.What sort of environment are you going to be in?Urban, rainforrest, coastal, river delta?

I'm not going to make a whole list, but how about a couple of chem lights. the ones that are about 3/8" in diameter, and 4 inches long. I'd put in one thats either green or red, as well as an IR.

Thanks for the input guys.

I hindsight I should have designed this contest a little differently because it became difficult to pick a winning entry. Nevertheless, I did get a couple of good ideas for inclusion in my kit so I found it to be a useful exercise. (I always find it's helpful to talk these things through).

I definitely appreciated everyone's input and liked the different approaches that people took. No one single kit matched my ideas for my E&E kit, but there were elements from almost everyone's list that I have in mine. I'm not saying mine is the right approach either; in the end these are personal choices.

Like I said, it was very difficult to pick a winner. In the end, I developed a weird little scoring system to pick a winner and used that.

For example, one confounder in the contest was that many of you included some First Aid stuff in the E&E kit. I think having some sort of FAK is always a good idea. I have a small FAK that rides in a cargo pocket or back pack at all times. So I didn't include FAK supplies in the E&E kit and no points were awarded for band-aids or triple antibiotic ointment...even though I think it's a good idea to carry those (and do).

In the end, HAKnPocket's list seemed closest to mine, and he won on points. (Maybe I should have penalized him more for having too much stuff :p.)

However, I appreciate everyone's input ad the following contestants have won their choice of an ESEE Arrow Head or ESEE Fire Kit from KSF (since Andy sells through them too :)).

1. BBQBoy
2. Quick Kill
3. BrewCity
4. Squishware
5. J. Fowler
6. Battlesword
7. Stealthchaser

Stealthchaser had a pretty slim list :p, but he was the only guy to pick up on the need for IR light! (prior Mil? or LE?) And I'm still trying to get a hold on some IR mini-chem lights ;). Once my kit is pulled together, I'll post up the contents with some photos. I'll include my FAK as well. I'm 90% completed on the E&E kit now, but have a bad cold and just don't want to fool around with pictures today.

Congratulations HAKnPocket, strong work!

If you guys can send me a shipping address by P.M. or post your e-mail as a visitor message I'll get the prizes in the mail. (Be sure to let me know which prize you want too.)

That's really generous of you, Rotte! Thanks, man and hope you have a happy and VERY safe New Year.

Amazing start to a new year. Thanks Rotte and good luck. PM inbound. Congratulations to the other guys. Happy New Years.

Thanks for the contest and win Rotte. I just left you a vm with my email.

I am neither past (or present) military or law enforcement, but hope to be one if not both in the next few years; In the mean time, I have taken care to learn quite a bit about both professions.

Jack you need to add the ESEE nav cards to your pack. I just got to look them over online and they are the ticket. Very very useful and light.

Well it's here. Rotte the BLJ showed up today and you have no idea how grateful I am. I really appreciate your generosity. I will get pics up when I find the camera. Are the scales osage over walnut? It matches my MUK pretty well. When I unpacked it I immediately added some paracord and put it around my neck where it will stay indefinitely. I do need to learn to sharpen convex now but thats cool I needed to anyway. Thanks again.

Stephen

Sorry, haven't checked the thread recently.

Yes, Osage. I think over Walnut. Awesome little knife; I hope it serves you well!

I LOVE THIS LITTLE BUGGER! It has not left my neck since it got there. I haven't even worn my Izula or Swamp Warden this much.
